Why My Mother Should Win a Trip to Sardinia for Mother's Day
My mother came to the United States when she was only fourteen years old. After two months of being on a crowded ship with virtually no food and harsh conditions, she brought her younger sister to New York, all by herself.
In 1969, she and my father (another immigrant) married. They had three children (I am the middle child) but unfortunately, they divorced in 1997 (uncommon in Asian marriages).
For the past twenty five years, she has been a florist and has worked virtually non-stop, often surviving on just a few hours of sleep, if any.
You can tell just by looking at how bruised and battered her hands are from de-thorning roses, cutting stems, making beautiful bouquets and arrangements, that she has worked so hard, for so long.
Yet she never complains and she has always supported me in anything I’ve wanted to do. But most importantly, she has never stopped loving me or being my mother.
It would be awesome if she won because she definitely deserves it.
