Why do you write?
Why do you write? What is it that inspires you, that drives you to put pen to paper, finger to keyboard and pour out your words? Is it a choice, or are you compelled by something deep inside to capture your words for posterity?

Why Do I Write
The simple answer is, because I can. The more profound answer would be, because I must. Writing for me is an extension of my breathing, my feeling and everything I am on the inside. Writing allows me to shape and refine (or not) all of that and channel it, direct it to a new place where it can be shared and read and perhaps remembered, at least for a time.

Why Do You...Write?
“Why do you write?” is a question writers get asked quite often. Some consider it offensive, patronizing even and depending on the tone of the party asking it might be one or both, however, neither emotion negates the validity of the question.
Knowing more about an author whose books I enjoy has always been a given. As a child I wanted to know who he/she was, where he/she lived, how old he/she was and at what age he/she began writing.

Why I Write
I love writing. I always have. When I was little, my grandmother gave me a special book. I still remember what it looked like, the binding was navy blue and it had little flowers all over it. Inside was lined paper ready for the pages to be filled with countless words. She told me to use it to write stories I would make up and have my friends write stories too. It became a game to make up as many stories as I could. I even would bring the book to school, pass it around and have my friends write stories that had made up too.

Why I Write: Redux
It’s the most popular question you’re likely to hear if you’ve ever put pen to paper: Why do you write? I happen to get a certain variation of it: Why do you write horror?

What's With The Writing thing?
Why do I write? The simple answer is:
Writers write. Writing is as important to me now as breathing is.
I guess the question should be why did you become a writer?
Since I was able to put pen to paper or later fingers to a keyboard I spent hours upon hours writing. I wanted to write from a young age because it gave me pleasure. After spending many years writing, the act became very cathartic for me. I was chasing all of my personal demons away. In a sense I was writing them out of me.
Now though, in 2010 my need for writing has dissipated and I'm back to WANTING to write, a huge shift in my personality. I'm writing now because I found something I'm passionate about and I want to share it.

Why I Write
I have no idea why us writers get asked why we write. I wonder if other professions are asked why they do what they do as much as we are.
