"What is Maturity?"

We've got "maturity" all wrong.  And how are we ever supposed to teach someone about being mature if we can't properly understand it oureselves?

ModernSophist.com examines the connotation of the word maturity and notices a trend: most people define the word in terms of "not being immature."  What, if any, is the effect of defining goal of self actualization in terms of its negative?

The author proposes re-defining the modern connotation in positive terms, terms which promote better understanding and contemplation, traits which further promote the effort.
