Visions of Heirloom Tomatoes Dance in My Head
Oh yeah, it's time. If you plan on gardening this year, better get your seeds early. I ordered my seeds from Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds last night. Find out why this isn't your average seed catalog.
This family owned compnay understands the importance of the almost lost art of seed saving. All their seeds are non-hybrid, non-GMO, non-treated and non-patented. They do not buy seed from Monsanto-owned Seminis. They boycott all gene-altering companies. They work with a network of about 50 small farmers, gardeners and seed growers and offer over 1300 varieties of seeds from 70 countries.
It's only March 3rd and a variety of seeds are already sold out. The grow-your-own-food movement is really taking hold. Don't get left out. You may find yourself pretty sorry if you don't get with this.

Heirloom Garden- Tasty and Responsible
I purchased many heirloom plants for my raised garden beds this year, sometimes heirlooms take a little extra work and vigilance, but the reward is well worth it. Food that comes the way nature made it, tasty, fresh and full of vitamins and minerals. Can’t wait to harvest!!!

Heirloom vs. Hybrid
A comment on finding the much more tasty and 'tomato-y' heirloom tomatoes.
My plan is to plant 'chocolate' tomatoes this season. I linked to your post so people can see how you are going about it

Where to get great seeds...
As I only discovered my love for gardening this year, I was not aware of the many websites that sell various rare and heirloom seeds (aside from ethnobotanicals ). Check out Inspired Creatives to get some new seed ideas and websites - I did, and I'm already excited for next spring's planting season!
I never realized just how creative one could be when making a garden. I long for the days when I have a whole yard to play with - and I promise, I will not install any tacky fake Greek sculptures in it . They're quite popular in the "Greater" part of the "Greater Vancouver Area".

home grown tomatoes ... baby
... one of the things I've missed the most living in the South is my garden. I remember thumbing through a mail-order catalog, Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds, and dreaming of the perfectly designed heirloom-quality vegetable garden. A garden outlined with a white picket fence, state of the art irrigation system, vegetables worthy of a blue ribbon and the occasional butterfly fluttering from plant to plant (that's over-doing it ... but can you visualize it??) Seems I'm not the only one with visions of heirloom tomatoes dancing in my head (fan of Baker too!) ... but for now ... I'll live vicariously through Ramona and her garden. (Oh, and her heirloom seed have arrived ... really retro-looking packets ... I'm thinking they should be framed.) More great garden plans have been drawn in the urban farming dirt (if I can play on words a little bit!)

Grow Your Own
Pretty soon, we’ll all be out there digging dirt, once again. I can’t wait!
The seed displays are absolutely everywhere and sadly picked over, already. Not really a problem for me…haven’t had much luck in starting plants from seed…don’t know why, it’s not much different from just watering my plants…it’s a mystery.
