Reusable, Reversible Swiffer Sock

I bought into the Swiffer hype a while back. And truthfully, I LOVE IT! I hated dunking a mop into a bucket of water and slopping it all over my floor. The water would gradually, sometimes not so gradually, become murky and gross. Dirt would cling to my mop. Swiffer's Wet Jet is brilliant. No mop buckets, easy to get rid of mop pads. The problem is, those mop pads are expensive and not at all kind to mother nature. So, when I saw this crochet project for a reusable, reversible swiffer sock, I had to make it. (The pattern comes from Craftzine.com)

Greening Cleaning

Ya know? I really should have thought of this. And I'm blaming it all on sleep-deprivation. If I were getting a good night's sleep - I'd have thought of this. Bwah-ah-ah - I'd have thought of everything!
Okay, probably need a nap, now. But, nonetheless, this is a terrific idea.
We recently bought a Swiffer WetJet system - the greatest thing since water for cleaning floors. It isn't, however, terribly 'green'. While we get more than one day's use out of the pads, we are still using and discarding and adding to the landfills.
Today, I got slapped in my crocheting ego. Rather than use and toss the pads that come with the Swiffer WetJet, zillions of people-who-hate-cleaning - just like I do - are greening up Swiffer with reusable {blush} crocheted pads. Hence, the ego-bruising.

Frugal Fridays Swifty Swiffer

Ginger posts how to make a Reusable, Reversible Swiffer Sock. It is an awesome idea to make a reusable sock for your swiffer, where one side is just for a dust mop, and the other is for a wet mop. However, what about those that aren't crafty, or just don't have the time to make one?
Years ago, I worked at a hotel cleaning rooms. And we used a swiffer. But we used cleaning cloths instead of the throw-away sheets. It is simple, easy, and gets the job done!

Convenient Swiffer Cleaning Made Green

One person’s accomplishment can be another's Achilles heel. Unfortunately, when it comes to cleaning my house, Achilles isn’t s wearing a big enough boot to kick my butt into gear!
There are only three things that can motivate me to clean: houseguests (there’s usually a glass of wine dangling like a carrot in front of me upon completion), bad smells (sometimes left by said houseguests) and gadgets.
That having been said, I ran across a great blog, Big Dreams for a Simple Life, and was really pumped to read about another mom, who like me, is trying to cut expenses and reduce her negative impact on the planet.
