I recently sent a care package to a friend who is overseas with the military. This post outlines what I learned about what to send, how to send it, and who you can send care packages to if you don't know anyone who is deployed. Do you send care packages? What do you pack for your troop(s)?
Having watched the films IN THE VALLEY OF ELAH, BROTHERS and RENDITION I was moved yet again to ask the title question. Artists, in particular, seem to blatantly link themselves with opposition to our involvement in recent wars, now headlined by Afghanistan. People I know are totally against this war and the powers that be fail to come out with any clear, logical and believable rational for this war. Like I said, all answers gratefully received.
Memorial Day often loses its meaning and value as we focus on summer fun, parties, and relaxation. But Memorial Day reminds us not only of those who have fallen in our defense, but also of the values they died defending.
SO much is going on in our world today. As a woman, a mother I am completely overwhelmed. I kind of just let loose on some things that I think are so very wrong with society today. It is a dark observation, and I am sure I will have some who completely disagree with my opinions, but then, discussion cannot be one sided. It would be quite boring if it was. So please read my post and tell me what you think. Perhaps you have a positive outlook on what is happening or have seen glimmers of hope that I have not been blessed to see? Please share your insights with me and in turn our readers.
The governments of the middle east and Asia are starting to fall one by one. Violence is spreading and with so many countries starting to come under fire I would love for there to be a seed posting of blgos tracking the various events in Yemen, Tunisia, Egypt, China, Libya and anywhere else that starts into military protest.
What are your thoughts on the changes? How do you feel about the use of force? Share your heart and your mind about the changes happening around the world.
The Obama administration’s response to the freedom protests on the streets of Cairo and throughout Egypt—a pained silence, followed by a limp plea for order to be restored on all sides—tells you all you need to know about America’s real intentions in the region. “Democracy” is the gaily colored Christmas paper wrapping the hammer that the US uses on dictatorships that step out of line. Membership in the Axis of Evil usually means you’ve done something to piss off the American Chamber of Commerce. Meanwhile, the US defense budget balloons ever larger.
Stock Markets and other financial institutions are at risk of terrorism. America's has very intelligent enemies and there are other ways to attack and hurt us without using bombs, such as tampering with our economy, food and water supply or infrastructure. Even inciting extremists, or to a lesser degree, simple islamaphobia, plays into terrorist hands. This creates and promotes civil discourse, both politically and religiously, and splits our country into factions which de-unify our nation and keeps our government gridlocked with bickering and indesisiveness.
Fairy murders are on the rise nationally as supplies of baby-teeth and baby-laughter or becoming scarce. The latest, in a string of violent acts, is the result of a horrific battle between the Russian Tooth-Cartel and Colombia's Baby-Laugh black market.
The victim, identified as Sprinkles Alvarez, was a well known lieutenant of the infamous Tooth-Cartel. Police are speculating that she had been trying to organize a massive shipment of baby-laughs when the deal went sour.
What do you do to help eliviate the growing global water crisis? Most US citizens dont even have this issue on their social responsibility radar. Beware, your complacent attitude will have dire consiquences on your to access to clean water. If your not......
Why is it that we understand millions of people dying for freedom, but will not tolerate hundreds of people dying of it? If we can justify authoritarian practises with the mantra 'if it saves just one child', should we ever have spent the lives of millions of soldiers winning freedoms we sell for just one?
The Lesson Learned, Hopefully is an examination of the events of September 11th,2001 on this, the 10th anniversary of the attack on the United States. An alternative view of what was learned by the American People concerning political power and self reliance (or lack thereof). A comparison of a the fall of empires, ancient and modern.
When reading novels I like to read something which really helps me to understand a country, or something about that country's history and culture.
So this post is about various novels set in Spain which take us into the midst of the Spanish Civil War. From chicklit to spy novels and the works of Hemingway, there are lots of novels that tell us something about Spanish history.
Like almost every other American and many in our world community I know exactly where I was on 9/11 when the first plane hit. I also remember not believing what I’d heard and not knowing what to do. I had friends who walked home in the rubble of ground zero and family who worked at the pentagon. The horror and terror of that day is something I will never forget. This post however, is not about that. This post is about September 10th 2001 and September 13th 2001.
I’m remembering the descent into the surreal. Radio reports told of crashing planes and dropping towers, of Pentagon flames and building evacuations, of stranded passengers in isolated airports – and, behind it al
John Perkins, an economic hitman, talks about his hand in the bribing, threatening, and murdering of prominent world leaders. This has been going on for decades right under our noses! What are your thoughts? Did you know about it? What are the implications of this for everyday people? View the full article to see an interview. Also find links to download his book for free!
We had a dream……and in that dream we heard the Pirates of Somalia crooning the Robber Baron song of old about how exploitation was justified under the guise of bringing order to the industrial chaos of the day.
Should we be involved with the rebellion in Libya? In this article, we explore why we are in Libya, how it compares to other humanitarian crisis in the past, and what questions we need to ask outselves before we become involved in futher endevours.
In this post, I examine the valuable role that constitutional monarchy can play in fledgling democracies, especially when compared to the presidential republican system. I also demonstrate how the West's ideological aversion to monarchy has hindered its efforts to promote liberal values and human rights in Afghanistan.
New theories in science show we live in a connected and abundant world. What do these findings mean in terms of how we should treat each other and our earth? Can we afford to neglect our poor and cut massive social programs when the ugliness in our hidden pockets of society refects the ugliness in our society as a whole? What do you think? Do new findings in science showing a deeply interconnected world affect the way we should behave morally and politically?
Still women all around the world have to fight for their rights in all parts of life. In some countries a woman is still considered as the property of her husband and don't have any rights, Some countries tell women what clothes to wear and prosecute them if they don't follow this rules or they are not even allowed to drive a car!
How many of you as a supervisor or business owner have had an employee who, no matter how many times you explained it or showed it to them, never actually got the concept of what it is you were trying to get them to do? For many civilians the learning curve can be a bit frustrating for the boss but not necessarily so when you ask a Veteran to do the job.
