One, Two, Three, What the Hell Do YOU See?

There's a large, pink, elephant in the middle of the room.  Am I the only one that sees it?  Shouldn't we DO something about it?  here, elephant, elephant, elephant...

Tea Party Detours to Nowhere

What will the future hold for Tea Party revolutionaries, militia members, and Oath Keepers, for people opting out of the culture in ever-increasing numbers, once the Revolution ends? It’s unlikely that the future will be as kind to them as it was to the peace-and-love revolutionaries of the 1960s, who lived in a kinder, more permissive world, one with greater career opportunities and a stronger social safety net.

Passion is Power

“Nothing great in the world has been accomplished without passion.”

- Georg Wilhem Friedrich Hegel

Two weeks ago I wrote an article on the Top 10 Reasons to Take a Job You Hate.  Just by reading the title, you might think that I’m opposed to passion.

The opposite is true.

Gay Suicides

We decided to take a second and write something concerning the terrible rash of suicides committed by gay teens after being bullied. We have several very close friends who are gay and the idea of someone pushing them around because they are who they are just boils our blood. Unfortunately, this is normal for the GLBT community. One our friends just posted a status saying that every gay person has a ‘horror story’.

Why Recycle? You Tree Huggers Are All Stupid

That's according to a recent Newsweek article. It's an interesting story, and gives us insight into the perspective of how so many people think. The writer makes the case that the impact humans will have on the environment, relative to the scope of the entire history and future of the world, is insignificant. The truth is most people are lazy and apethetic to the world outside of their own bubble and it's always easy to justify doing nothing. Things like recycling and conserving resources do require some effort and can feel like it doesn't really do much in the big picture of the universe.

We can't communicate and we're too lazy to care

Writing should be an important topic in schools, but the more I teach, the more I realize it’s not stressed nearly enough. This month, I am teaching a “Fundamentals of English” college course. This course teaches the basics of English to students. I cover parts of speech as well as basic writing skills, and I try to do it in 12 hours a week for four weeks.

We've stopped teaching our kids to communicate and we've stopped teaching them to stand up for themselves.  How can we fix this or at least combat the apathy?

A Word (or Many) About Gay Marriage

In both the wedding world and politics, gay marriage is a very hot topic.  First, there was a the passing of Proposition 8 in California, which had banned gay marriage in the state. Then, Martha Stewart Weddings featured its first ever gay wedding in their magazine.

"@#$@ that", pt. 2

After hearing about the recent attempt to pass a bill to have a "no-cuss" week in California.

And once I took a look at what caused the whole situation to come up, I thought it was time to let my voice be heard.

Phony Feminists and Super Bowl Commercials

A brief recap of the outrage by some calling themselves feminists over the pro-life testamony of Mrs. Tebow and her son. The commercial was so tame that it was easy to not even realize the message. So, the feminists made up another reason to complain.

Medical Non-Compliance Equals Murder

A study done at Ohio State University published by the American Medical Association in 2008 showed a rate of 48 percent  non-compliance with Pediatric Cancer Regimen with depressed patients. There would have been a national outcry of rage if those families had been tried for attempted murder.

Moldy Old White Bread "MOWB"

Tea Hee Haw

We had a dream……and in that dream we found ourselves standing in the middle of a vast Texas wasteland next to a large cluster of sagebrush that was still dripping from the recent rain storm. The cracked earth that had previously lined the nearby creek bed was now engorged as the rain waters rushed by in a hurry to fill the scrubby pond down yonder.

POTUS, Inc.

First We March on Austin: Teachers

Nationwide budgets are tightening. As the state governments look around at what to cut the resounding chorus of legistlative voices say school finance budgets.  School districts and law makers alike are locked into a battle for the future of our school children.

Do we allow the under financing of the poorer districts and ignore those children of immigrants?  If we sit by silently than we are allowing for the building of the new American caste system.

The domino effect of the protests around the world

The governments of the middle east and Asia are starting to fall one by one. Violence is spreading and with so many countries starting to come under fire I would love for there to be a seed posting of blgos tracking the various events in Yemen, Tunisia, Egypt, China, Libya and anywhere else that starts into military protest.

What are your thoughts on the changes? How do you feel about the use of force? Share your heart and your mind about the changes happening around the world.

No Cheers for Democracy in the Middle East: Another bad bet against freedom backfires on the US.

The Obama administration’s response to the freedom protests on the streets of Cairo and throughout Egypt—a pained silence, followed by a limp plea for order to be restored on all sides—tells you all you need to know about America’s real intentions in the region. “Democracy” is the gaily colored Christmas paper wrapping the hammer that the US uses on dictatorships that step out of line. Membership in the Axis of Evil usually means you’ve done something to piss off the American Chamber of Commerce. Meanwhile, the US defense budget balloons ever larger.

Elections and the Bible

I have listened to and heard a great deal of talking heads and political pundits over the past few days and as I was doing my quiet time reading a few minutes ago I was reading through Psalm 33.  As I read verses 10-12 I was reminded that even if there is a change in the balance of powers in the U.S. Government, we as a nation may have a reprieve of some bad policies and some even rescinded, our country is still moving towards great peril.  Listen to what the Scriptures say...

Video: Financial 9/11

Stock Markets and other financial institutions are at risk of terrorism. America's has very intelligent enemies and there are other ways to attack and hurt us without using bombs, such as tampering with our economy, food and water supply or infrastructure. Even inciting extremists, or to a lesser degree, simple islamaphobia, plays into terrorist hands. This creates and promotes civil discourse, both politically and religiously, and splits our country into factions which de-unify our nation and keeps our government gridlocked with bickering and indesisiveness.

The peasants are awake, aware, angry, and have pitchforks

The GOP, the DNC, and the pundits are clueless as to who "we the people" really is.  They are running out of time to wake up and smell the coffee or ach will destroy itself from within.

Most Powerful Man in the World?

Financier and speculator George Soros may just be the most powerful man in the world, but you'd never know that by reading newspapers or watching TV news. We all know about mediamatters.com and his other "front" organizations. We know of his ties to Barack Obama, but that information has mainly been dug out by bloggers and the Internet news.

Mr. President - It Doesn't Show.

This week, a White House official said, and the Associated Press dutifully reported that "President Barack Obama is a Christian, who prays daily". While a statement by one anointed official captured the headline, 61% of people polled collectively spoke "It Doesn't Show". 18% of people believe that Obama is a Muslim and another 43% said they don't know his religion.  The Christian faith does not show in this man.

America Needs A Grandmother Lodge

Long ago in the North East of this land, the Iroquois (known amongst themselves as the Haudenosaunee), under the direction of a great peacekeeper, built a strong confederacy for the mutual good of their member nations. Not only did the five nations of the Mohawk, the Oneidas, the Onondagas, the Cayugas, and the Seneca benefit from this structure, but also the 13 English colonies which later became the United States of America – because it modeled the government of the Haudenosaunee.

Tromatic Oil Spill

I was a fan of Troma Films who distributed some b-Movie cult classics back in the '80s, most famously The Toxic Avenger. This has been bothering me for awhile and I finally decided I had to write about it, because it all seems so unreal, like something out of a Sci-Fi/Horror flick. Except the results of the Oil Spill right now could make all those movies seem prophetic and turn out to be reality.

No joke.

I hope you will agree with me that this concern of mine is not unfounded or frivolous :
