There's a large, pink, elephant in the middle of the room. Am I the only one that sees it? Shouldn't we DO something about it? here, elephant, elephant, elephant...
What will the future hold for Tea Party revolutionaries, militia members, and Oath Keepers, for people opting out of the culture in ever-increasing numbers, once the Revolution ends? It’s unlikely that the future will be as kind to them as it was to the peace-and-love revolutionaries of the 1960s, who lived in a kinder, more permissive world, one with greater career opportunities and a stronger social safety net.
My views on the injustices of criminals being able to get married, and gay people being denied those same rights. Oprah actually led to this post when she talked with a lady who married a man convicted of murder.
Being a critical medical researcher, I give advice to my friends, particularly my friends who are also parents, about vaccination. I do not do so in a forceful manner, I just ask people to bear in mind what they are putting into their bodies, considering the toxic "non-medicinal ingredients" such as glycine and aluminum hydrochloride, that comprise a good deal of new vaccines. I became quite passionate about arguing against vaccination during the H1N1 panic, and as new vaccines are being released en masse now - for example the "TwinRix" vaccine recommended for anyone traveling s
Temperatures on earth have been rising and falling over billions of years, and evidence that man's pre-dominantly responsible is far from conclusive (particularly since our existence only counts for a tiny fraction of the evolutionary timeline). However, the danger of exhausting current energy supply is beyond dispute, and more likely to affect us sooner than the need to seek inspiration from a certain biblical shipwright.
As we watch another country struggle for democracy or at the very least new leadership. We have to remember that with freedom comes many voices and that we will not always agree with every voice.
Having watched the films IN THE VALLEY OF ELAH, BROTHERS and RENDITION I was moved yet again to ask the title question. Artists, in particular, seem to blatantly link themselves with opposition to our involvement in recent wars, now headlined by Afghanistan. People I know are totally against this war and the powers that be fail to come out with any clear, logical and believable rational for this war. Like I said, all answers gratefully received.
We decided to take a second and write something concerning the terrible rash of suicides committed by gay teens after being bullied. We have several very close friends who are gay and the idea of someone pushing them around because they are who they are just boils our blood. Unfortunately, this is normal for the GLBT community. One our friends just posted a status saying that every gay person has a ‘horror story’.
That's according to a recent Newsweek article. It's an interesting story, and gives us insight into the perspective of how so many people think. The writer makes the case that the impact humans will have on the environment, relative to the scope of the entire history and future of the world, is insignificant. The truth is most people are lazy and apethetic to the world outside of their own bubble and it's always easy to justify doing nothing. Things like recycling and conserving resources do require some effort and can feel like it doesn't really do much in the big picture of the universe.
For my first six months as a blogger, I did not dare show an actual photograph of myself on my blog, or elsewhere on the web. I was just a ghost with the screen name "scarsarestories". I was a little paranoid, since I blog about contraversial, and sometimes local topics. Then I thought, "Screw it!" How many times a day is my face captured on camera while walking down the street, never mind when speaking with folks from around the world who read my writing and talk with me about it? - this is my dream come true!
In both the wedding world and politics, gay marriage is a very hot topic. First, there was a the passing of Proposition 8 in California, which had banned gay marriage in the state. Then, Martha Stewart Weddings featured its first ever gay wedding in their magazine.
The Brady Campaign has initiated a bully campaign against Starbucks in the hopes to intimidate them into changing their policy on patrons openly displaying their sidearms in states where open-carry is legal. Starbucks has fired back saying they do not appreciate being drawn into this debate, and request both pro-gun and anti-gun forces to take their battle to state legislatures. It is my view that the Brady Campaign has crossed the line and are bordering on harassment, and Starbucks would be in the right to take legal action. What do you think?
We had a dream……and in that dream we found ourselves standing in the middle of a vast Texas wasteland next to a large cluster of sagebrush that was still dripping from the recent rain storm. The cracked earth that had previously lined the nearby creek bed was now engorged as the rain waters rushed by in a hurry to fill the scrubby pond down yonder.
We weren’t really sure if the Moon was in the seventh house, or if Jupiter was aligned with Mars when the Sun transitioned into Aquarius in January, but what we do know is that a new age began with surprisingly little fanfare and very few outcries from an indignant American public. ...
SO much is going on in our world today. As a woman, a mother I am completely overwhelmed. I kind of just let loose on some things that I think are so very wrong with society today. It is a dark observation, and I am sure I will have some who completely disagree with my opinions, but then, discussion cannot be one sided. It would be quite boring if it was. So please read my post and tell me what you think. Perhaps you have a positive outlook on what is happening or have seen glimmers of hope that I have not been blessed to see? Please share your insights with me and in turn our readers.
With all the chaos around the Mediterranean, from financial problems in Greece to revolutions in Libya, I thought it was time we look past the individual nations and look at the region as a whole. This article is (will be) a multi-day "voyage" around the Med looking at all of the players and what the future may hold for relations between the nations and the United States.
The governments of the middle east and Asia are starting to fall one by one. Violence is spreading and with so many countries starting to come under fire I would love for there to be a seed posting of blgos tracking the various events in Yemen, Tunisia, Egypt, China, Libya and anywhere else that starts into military protest.
What are your thoughts on the changes? How do you feel about the use of force? Share your heart and your mind about the changes happening around the world.
Egypt’s cultural heritage is at risk. The current unrest only underscores its vulnerability. While our concern must first focus on restoring security and stability for the people, we must protect Egypt's cultural heritage because information lost to looting can never be replaced.
Until order is restored, we believe that if the demand for Egyptian antiquities is curtailed, if not stopped, the loss of Egypt's cultural patrimony during this tumultuous time would be curbed. What do you think?
The Obama administration’s response to the freedom protests on the streets of Cairo and throughout Egypt—a pained silence, followed by a limp plea for order to be restored on all sides—tells you all you need to know about America’s real intentions in the region. “Democracy” is the gaily colored Christmas paper wrapping the hammer that the US uses on dictatorships that step out of line. Membership in the Axis of Evil usually means you’ve done something to piss off the American Chamber of Commerce. Meanwhile, the US defense budget balloons ever larger.
This nasty individual has some very vile and disgusting views of gay people and the reason I am linking to his blog is to ensure that the Conservative Party dismiss him completely and that people know of this horrible individual.
We Americans believe that the government and the education system for our students, through high school, is flawed. While that is true, the biggest thing that is required in the US for it to "catch up" to the rest of the world? A New Attitude.
The differences start at home. First, Korean students work first, complain later. Second, Korean parents use essentially ALL, not part, of their money on their child's education.
And, Korea (and the rest of the world) isn't going to slow down to wait for the US to catch up.
Stock Markets and other financial institutions are at risk of terrorism. America's has very intelligent enemies and there are other ways to attack and hurt us without using bombs, such as tampering with our economy, food and water supply or infrastructure. Even inciting extremists, or to a lesser degree, simple islamaphobia, plays into terrorist hands. This creates and promotes civil discourse, both politically and religiously, and splits our country into factions which de-unify our nation and keeps our government gridlocked with bickering and indesisiveness.
At the outbreak of the Cultural Revolution in 1967, a young, as yet unpublished writer, hearing that writers were being singled out for persecution, burned a suitcase full of his manuscripts. Short stories, plays, essays and scholarly critiques were gone in a blaze. He fled to a remote mountain village where he lived and worked as a manual labourer for several years. He wrote too, but secretly.
