I have a question for you all to ponder today . Are you getting sick and tired of ” minorities ” constantly lecturing the ” majority ” about how ” insensitive ” they are? Why is it that we incessantly hear these “minorities ” of all stripes lecturing us about their rights but we never hear them utter a word about their responsibilities?
Long ago in the North East of this land, the Iroquois (known amongst themselves as the Haudenosaunee), under the direction of a great peacekeeper, built a strong confederacy for the mutual good of their member nations. Not only did the five nations of the Mohawk, the Oneidas, the Onondagas, the Cayugas, and the Seneca benefit from this structure, but also the 13 English colonies which later became the United States of America – because it modeled the government of the Haudenosaunee.
Now, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that part of the reason Gov. Brewer signed SB 1070 was to protect her own political backside from getting walloped in the Republican primary by notable blowhard Sheriff Joe Arpaio. Every poll leading up to her signing the bill had her winning the primary…..except in cases where Arpaio ran. However, once Arpaio held his press conference to say he’s not running, you’d she would have toned down the rhetoric a few notches.
Humans are a wonerful species of primates, but certainly not capable of controlling our ego and greed in a hyped-up consumerist culture. Living sustainably will require some major shifts in our culture towards responsibility and stress-reduction rather than mindless "productivity" and acquisitiveness.
Our nation seems to me in an increasingly precarious position -- economically, socially, and politically. If we are to have a chance at stemming this tide that jeopardizes our freedom, then good people must take a stand and get involved. As a man deeply passionate about Jesus Christ and profoundly loyal to this place called America, that God has blessed from generation to generation -- I am stepping up to be part of the solution to what is wrong in our nation.
A response to a New York Times op-ed piece written by Bob Herbert. In his article, he argues why the United States is not ready for an expansion in nuclear power, citing the oil spill in the Gulf as an example of the devastation that could occur. I argue that we are not only ready for nuclear power, but that technology has advanced far enough making the technology safer.
As horrible as the BP oil spill is, and as furious and sad and frustrated as I feel, I can’t agree with is the emotional knee-jerk reaction leading to the “Boycott BP” and “Bankrupt BP” sentiments. Read why in this post.
A collective of private companies and organizations have formed an educational campaign called "1 for All." Their goal is to provide educational materials to teachers to improve student education on the First Amendment. Groups, including the Newseum and the First Amendment Center, hope that this campaign will help students be better versed in the five protections covered in the First Amendment.
If there was a class on procrastination – I would get an A+. Currently, through my five years of university thus far, I have learned how to write an essay, how to study, but most of all, amazing ways to procrastinate!
Procrastination is often thought of as being a bad thing; however, in reality, this is not the case. If you procrastinate the right way, it can help you get your schoolwork done and improve the quality of your life.
It’s not like you need any help, but just in case you’re struggling, I have decided to share some of the best ways to procrastinate.
Temperatures on earth have been rising and falling over billions of years, and evidence that man's pre-dominantly responsible is far from conclusive (particularly since our existence only counts for a tiny fraction of the evolutionary timeline). However, the danger of exhausting current energy supply is beyond dispute, and more likely to affect us sooner than the need to seek inspiration from a certain biblical shipwright.
A brief recap of the outrage by some calling themselves feminists over the pro-life testamony of Mrs. Tebow and her son. The commercial was so tame that it was easy to not even realize the message. So, the feminists made up another reason to complain.
For my first six months as a blogger, I did not dare show an actual photograph of myself on my blog, or elsewhere on the web. I was just a ghost with the screen name "scarsarestories". I was a little paranoid, since I blog about contraversial, and sometimes local topics. Then I thought, "Screw it!" How many times a day is my face captured on camera while walking down the street, never mind when speaking with folks from around the world who read my writing and talk with me about it? - this is my dream come true!
I had to do it. I found that friends were starting to treat me and others like "facebook friends" in real life, for example, "collecting friends" - so that just like you can show off how many "friends" you have on your "facebook friends list" - you can do this in real life, by calling people and making tentative plans without any attention of following through with them. I have lost friends via facebook because I have found people will be reactionary and start throwing insults at me that they never would in person if they disagree with something I say. I also noticed that
Being a critical medical researcher, I give advice to my friends, particularly my friends who are also parents, about vaccination. I do not do so in a forceful manner, I just ask people to bear in mind what they are putting into their bodies, considering the toxic "non-medicinal ingredients" such as glycine and aluminum hydrochloride, that comprise a good deal of new vaccines. I became quite passionate about arguing against vaccination during the H1N1 panic, and as new vaccines are being released en masse now - for example the "TwinRix" vaccine recommended for anyone traveling s
I recently sent a care package to a friend who is overseas with the military. This post outlines what I learned about what to send, how to send it, and who you can send care packages to if you don't know anyone who is deployed. Do you send care packages? What do you pack for your troop(s)?
I was a fan of Troma Films who distributed some b-Movie cult classics back in the '80s, most famously The Toxic Avenger. This has been bothering me for awhile and I finally decided I had to write about it, because it all seems so unreal, like something out of a Sci-Fi/Horror flick. Except the results of the Oil Spill right now could make all those movies seem prophetic and turn out to be reality.
No joke.
I hope you will agree with me that this concern of mine is not unfounded or frivolous :
Last week I was doing research at school for a writing class project. I had found a few good journal articles on my subject via Google Scholar. My professor suggested that I dig through the references list of an article we already had to find some good source material, which sounded like a good idea. There were probably fifty or sixty references listed in the article I chose. I typed the name of the first article into Google Scholar and clicked the title.
Writing should be an important topic in schools, but the more I teach, the more I realize it’s not stressed nearly enough. This month, I am teaching a “Fundamentals of English” college course. This course teaches the basics of English to students. I cover parts of speech as well as basic writing skills, and I try to do it in 12 hours a week for four weeks.
We've stopped teaching our kids to communicate and we've stopped teaching them to stand up for themselves. How can we fix this or at least combat the apathy?
Is it just me, or is it just getting too much now? The constant talk, so-called ‘expert analysis’, endless trite journalistic commentary, minute probing of every possible element of the party leaders’ purported personalities, cameras and microphones extended ruthlessly into every conceivable party-political orifice, and all of this played over and over again ad nauseum.
UNITED NATIONS – In James Cameron’s Blockbuster hit Avatar, an indigenous people called the Na’vi try to fend off a private military force from invading their mineral-rich land. In the Brazilian state of Para, the situation isn’t all that different, as 13 indigenous tribes are working to prevent the construction of the Belo Monte electro-power plant.
