Being Afraid of Nuclear Energy

A response to a New York Times op-ed piece written by Bob Herbert.  In his article, he argues why the United States is not ready for an expansion in nuclear power, citing the oil spill in the Gulf as an example of the devastation that could occur.  I argue that we are not only ready for nuclear power, but that technology has advanced far enough making the technology safer.

How Selling Relates to Life

If you don’t believe in what you’re selling and you don’t really care about each prospect as an individual, then get out of this business. We have enough sharks in the water. It’s time to get back to the true intent of sales. Make it the noble profession it once was and you’ll not only be helping yourself, but you’ll be transforming lives along the way.

Reduce Your Carbon Footprint With Vintage Shoes (And Other Vintage Fashions & Accessories)

EeBay’s latest ad campaign includes promoting the eBay Green Team by pointing out how environmentally kind and ethical wearing previously owned clothing is: The greenest product is the one that already exists.

The facts presented in the promotion may be new, but the principal probably isn’t news to vintage fashion lovers & those who are generally thrifty. The question is, do you think this will change buying habits?

Things I've learned about money

My husband and I – we know debt. Married for just about 18 years, but together for 23, we know what its like to live check to check. We know what its like to have an unscrupulous employer not pay for a job well done, we know what its like to owe Uncle Sam (I don’t recommend it). Over the years, I’ve listened to lots of people talk, watched what other people did with their money, read a little, and tried to accumulate all those bits and pieces into a financial philosophy that works for us. Here are some of the things I’ve learned:

ROI = Return on Investment: If it isn’t working why are you doing it?

ROI = Return On Investment. Although this term originated in financial circles I recently figured out it also applies to life in general.  For example:  relationships, education & training, networking, friendships. Sometimes we work so hard at what we’re doing we don’t take time to step back and be objective.

The Caregiver Club Sandwich

An increasing number of situations are considered part of the "Sandwich Generation." The middle age adult, caring for sick parents and children at the same time. President Obama has addressed the issue by promising support for parents who are caring for elderly while trying to put children through college at the same time.

Election Saturation

Is it just me, or is it just getting too much now? The constant talk, so-called ‘expert analysis’, endless trite journalistic commentary, minute probing of every possible element of the party leaders’ purported personalities, cameras and microphones extended ruthlessly into every conceivable party-political orifice, and all of this played over and over again ad nauseum.

Tea Party Detours to Nowhere

What will the future hold for Tea Party revolutionaries, militia members, and Oath Keepers, for people opting out of the culture in ever-increasing numbers, once the Revolution ends? It’s unlikely that the future will be as kind to them as it was to the peace-and-love revolutionaries of the 1960s, who lived in a kinder, more permissive world, one with greater career opportunities and a stronger social safety net.

Blogs are Money Making Machines? Tell me more…

I was reading through all the blog posts on SeededBuzz to get an idea of which blog types are getting buzzed.  I’ve only planted 2 Seeds, buzzed once, but I've never been buzzed.  Scrolling through the Seeds I realize I’m not alone in the UNBUZZED category, lol.

Millions failing to keeping up with mortage repayments

In the UK, millions are failing to keep up with their mortgage repayments and are using credit cards to make repayments!

The knock on effects of this are discussed in this post and we'd love you to read it and give us your views.

I appreciate you may be blogging from the US or other countries, but the credit crunch was global and I am guessing your country is suffering to. True?

Our post talks about UK homeless charities like Shelter and debt charities like the CCCS. Perhaps you could do a round up of the best sources of non-commercial help in your country.

Are Conservatives Really Conservative?

If, according to a recent Gallop Poll, 40% of the population is conservative why are liberal spending programs not favored by 40% of the population for limited spending? It seems strange the socialistic programs of Social Security (notice the word SOCIAL is in the title) and Medicare are not even considered by “conservatives” for spending cuts.

How many of your employees could tell me your Business Strategy?

As a Business Owner or Senior Director, you should have a crystal clear view of your Business Strategy.  But how certain are you that the rest of your employees could describe what that strategy is.  If they can't then how are they supposed to be helping the business to achieve it's goals.  In many businesses employees and teams have to make up their own idea of what the strategy is, and it's unlikely to be the same as yours.  I appreciate your thoughts.

SLA & Tiered Service Levels

Building a call centre and providing exceptional customer service is hard work.  My goal is to ensure that my hard fought battles are passed on via a series of articles and posts relating to customer service.  Unfortunately this is something that I think is very much a dying art in our world and should be retained.

This specific article is about a common misconception that managers make when building an SLA that is provided to their customers.  If their internal metrics do not match their external ones they are setting themselves up for failure.
