The Point of This Post (yes, I do have one) isto share a few websites I've joined since becoming a dedicated blogger. Bear in mind that I have only been blogging regularly since last August, so this may be old news to you. At any rate, I've found these sites useful in building my blog:
One topic that bloggers and webmasters always seem to debate about is Alexa ranking. In case you do not know what Alexa ranking is, it is a ranking system that is based on traffic to your site. I relate it to the Nielsen ratings for TV. Alexa makes their determinates by looking at traffic from those users that have the Alexa toolbar installed. Many folks in the web world will make a judegement that the lower your Alexa scorte, the better your site. For example, Google has an Alexa ranking of 1. It seems that bloggers are split right down the middle with s
I recently blogged about the benefits of blogging and how it has helped my writing and my aspirations to become published. Why do you blog and how does it help you?
Recently, Darren Rowse from Problogger.net put up a challenge for bloggers.
It's pretty simple:
Write about 7 links you want to share with other bloggers, one of which links out elsewhere and if you want, you can talk about the links you've chosen. Add a little summary for each.
Here's what the 7 link challenge asks:
1. Your first post
2. A post you enjoyed writing the most
3. A post which had a great discussion
4. A post on someone else's blog that you'd wish you'd written
Most bloggers tend to write very serious blog posts. That is good as many people are reading blogs to learn new things. But I feel it can be too serious to only write about serious topics. Once in a while it could be a good idea to mix it up and do something more humorous. What is your view on this?
Forget everything you know about how to motivate people - whether at work, at school, at home. According to Daniel H. Pink, the author of the New York Time's bestselling book Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us, we've got it all wrong.
Those of us who are active in Social Media realize it's value as both a new form of expression and as a new form of promotion.
But many local businesses still don't "get it". They don't understand the whole social media phenomenon and are skeptical that it has anything to offer their local business.
But can social media be an effective advertising, marketing or sales tool for local business? How have YOU used social media to boost local business?
Let me begin by admitting that I use Facebook daily. I’m not a big phone person and I currently live in the boonies, so I like being able to share in Facebook’s Buffet of Amenities. Besides, the initial idea behind Facebook is nothing short of stupendous. You get to keep in touch with friends and family, reconnect with old acquaintances, and publicize businesses and events – for free. Convenient, huh?
That being said, I think the whole thing has been a bit too used and abused.
Recently a friend mentioned something to me that made me firm up my decision to do this on my own. She pointed out that the sample of the manuscript I sent her was in the wrong font and spacing for agents to read and that they would likely just throw it out without giving it a chance. She was being kind in pointing it out but the thing that struck me is, fuck that! I like the font I write in. I use it because I like to read it and how it looks. I really don't care if someone doesn't like it. That's a stupid reason not to read something.
Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, is one of the disciplines within internet marketing. The first step towards learning seo is to understand how search engines work. You have to understand how they work before you can optimize your web site. There are two main components in search engines, the crawlers and the algorithms.
If you think about blogging, and the reasons why people give it up, you can start to see that blogging is really a community thing and without community, it starts to get pointless, lonely, and feels like a waste of time.
This is the same for both business and personal blogs.
This topic generated a lot of interest on my blog and it's a great one to get people talking. Suggestions for developing the conversation:
Too many people are taking the idea of "fake it 'til you make it" to extremes, and doing harm to themselves and others along the way. Is it time to reconsider the wisdom of this philosophy? And is there an alternative to "faking it"? Join in the debate at the Motivation 101 Blog!
You may or may not have heard that in order to “make it big” in blogging, you must define yourself in one particular niche. That is, your content should be focused on one major category or variety of sub-categories that more or less all relate to a single topic of interest.

It's true, guest posting really is one of the best ways to promote your blog. Guest posting has created opportunities for me that would've otherwise been impossible. I've been able to network with people from all over the world, something I couldn't even fathom a little over a year ago. So with guest posting being all the rave, how could there be a downside?
There has been talk amongst the blogosphere about spammers picking up email addresses from giveaway entries. I do not want that happening to anybody- especially readers of legitimate blogs. So please remember follow the tips to keep your email address safe and away from email address swipers.
After spending way too much time on Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook lately, I can’t help but notice the amount of content people are generating and aggregating. I follow people “professionally” on Twitter and LinkedIn, and I see articles and blog posts on almost every topic imaginable. People are using social media to develop their personal and professional brands.
So is content the new black? Is content replacing creative?
Maybe replacing isn’t the right word, but content is definitely making a comeback.
