Qualified for the job or position but you don't get hired because you're deaf or hard of hearing? What is wrong with hearing people that they just don't get it? Deaf & hard of hearing people need an income too!
You rank right up there with all the other applicants but you can't get past the interview? It's time to find solutions and get past the starting gate.
I love my kids, and being a stay-at-home-mom. But I had a rough day yesterday, and couldn't help but think about how life would be different if I worked outside our home. Being content with where I'm at right now is always a struggle for me. No one is constantly happy all the time, but how do you maintain contentment with where you are at in life?
It seems like a lot of the people out there who focus full-time on craft businesses, Etsy shops, blogging, freelance design businesses, etc, have a partner or spouse with a steady income stream. That steady partner in crime helps make it possible for so many of these people to take the leap and devote more time to their creative business endeavors. But what about those people who are single?
I'm sure they meant well, but my parents had their own agenda for what career I would follow. Looking back on it now, as a mom of three great kids of my own, I feel sorry for them that they never got to know the real daughter they had. But the good news is, despite lots of detours and sidetracks, I just realized the other day that I have grown up to do all the things I loved to do as a child! And I get paid for it! How cool is that???
This blog post is largely a pro/con list concerning gaining a graduate degree or avoiding debt. Mull it over with me, will you? I've got to figure out what I'm going to do fairly soon because I need to register for classes this month, but I'd appreciate any thoughts, advice, related articles, or your personal experience with this issue!
Most of my friends have, at one time or another, gotten an e-mail from me where the subject bars read SUBJECT: FRIENDLY INTRODUCTION. In the e-mail, I introduce two people to one another and explain why I think they should know one another. I’ve done this thousands of times through the years. Are you responsible for what happens after an introduction?
I have reached the final hours of my month of craziness, and the time has come to really reflect on it. Was I as successful a teacher, a wife, and a mother as I had hoped to be?
Look back over your last month? What did you reach your goals on? What did you miss? How can you improve?
Body language in an interview can help you create the ideal package to leave a positive impression on your interviewer. It's absolutely normal to feel nervous during an interview and, as an interviewee, you can unconsciously send wrong signals to your interviewer. But practice makes everything perfect. Have a look at the following body language techniques and prepare yourself to keep your body under control during an interview!
These are the corporate-minded gatekeepers who block your every effort to maneuver around them and get across the bridge. This is occasionally done maliciously and without conscience, but frequently the blockade is enforced without the Troll consciously comprehending that it is ‘the hold up’, standing in the way and blocking all passage to the other side....
We’re not sure what’s worse – having to learn about something we never thought we needed to know, or coming to grips with the verifiable truth that our private pursuits are being systematically archived for future use against us.
There are those that believe that just because you aren’t going to work at a job every day, unemployment is like an unpaid vacation. This perception is very very wrong. First of all, when you are unemployed you are never really off work. You must be ever at the ready, in case something comes up. In addition, a formal job search can take up to forty hours a week. Vacations are fun, exciting, and sometimes expensive. Unemployment is miserable, demoralizing, ans always expensive.
The number of professional networking sites out on the internet these days is growing rapidly. However, many of these are niche networks, or have a fairly short shelf life due to a lack of a sufficiently wide enough audience. It’s important to be sure that you focus the effort required to maintain an online presence with networking sites that will provide real and tangible benefits to you.
What sites and services do you use? What hints and tips would you give people starting out building their presence?
I wrote this blog post primarily about unemployment. I discussed some of the Bible verses that have helped to encourage my family during rough times and some ways that unemployment can actually be helpful. I'd love to hear other people's opinions on what Bible verses or other sources of inspiration encouraged or helped them during unemployment or other difficult times in their lives.
At the risk of sounding too green to call myself a blogger, I have a few questions that I would love to ask those of you who are more experienced in the world of blogging. Whereas I don't see myself becoming a professional blogger, I have heard of several opportunities to make good money writing posts and would love to try my hand at this. One website in particular said they would only pay for posts that are published on blogs that have a Google Page Ranking of 4 an
After many years as a stay at home mom, my kids are all in school now and I am I am entering back into the work force. I love being able to work from home (though it does present it's own unique challenges). Regardless of where or how you work or what you do (and I am the first to admit that staying home with kids is work!) it's great to think about the things you love about your job. It's a great exercise!
I noticed over the summer that observing the people around me at my last nanny job this sense of being jaded was getting worse and one of the reasons I had to leave was that I was starting to wonder if there was any room for real compassion in the world anymore and if this was the only environment I was able to work in I didn’t want any part of it. The fact is that as hard as it is to feel compassion for someone and really care about what happens to them it is far harder and a worse fate for me if I have to live without caring.

In this post I share about my experience on how I'm trying to help others and how it has actually turned to help me in return as well.
Why don't you share a similar experience you've had?
I was a fan of Troma Films who distributed some b-Movie cult classics back in the '80s, most famously The Toxic Avenger. This has been bothering me for awhile and I finally decided I had to write about it, because it all seems so unreal, like something out of a Sci-Fi/Horror flick. Except the results of the Oil Spill right now could make all those movies seem prophetic and turn out to be reality.
No joke.
I hope you will agree with me that this concern of mine is not unfounded or frivolous :
Figuring out how to reenter life in Los Angeles, CA, after teaching abroad. Seeing that the economy has is crushing the state from the top down, makes this a very daunting task.
Some people are just naturally gifted at staying organized. You walk into their bedroom and it looks like no one lives there. The bed is made, the floor is clear, and everything has its place. Minimalism seems to be a common theme. “Effortless” is written in the air.
