I'm embarking on the 52 Weeks of Blogging your Passion journey and the first step in the process is developing your blog's mission statement. The mission statement serves as the focal point of your blog and all posts should be written with the umbrella of the mission in mind.
So what's my mission? In a nutshell, to support, promote and spread the word about indie designers, handmade artisans and independently owned brick and mortar shops and businesses.
So, what's your mission? How do you carry it out in your blog?
EeBay’s latest ad campaign includes promoting the eBay Green Team by pointing out how environmentally kind and ethical wearing previously owned clothing is: The greenest product is the one that already exists.
The facts presented in the promotion may be new, but the principal probably isn’t news to vintage fashion lovers & those who are generally thrifty. The question is, do you think this will change buying habits?
Based on an advert for laser hair removal I read, I think we spend about a month shaving our legs. So on a blog post I wrote called "does laser hair removal really give you a month of free time?", I have challenged you to blog about how you spend your perfect month.
I can't wait to read the Buzz with your ideas and will give the Buzz I think is best $100 as a prize.
Hope you have as much fun thinking about it as I did.
I watch women, friends, every single day, and I am baffled. I have always done this, wondered why women put so much time and effort into things. And none of it is really for them, when they stop and think about it. They are not doing all of these things for themselves. They are doing it because other people expect it, or prefer it, or like it, or demand it, or whatever.
When you give an ordinary run-of-the-mill gift, sure you fulfill an obligation, but that's about all you do. When you give unique, unusual gifts, you show the people receiving them that you really care. You show that you took the time to seek out something different—something that shows you're giving a gift because you want to, not simply because you have to.
I love to shop for birthays and holidays. I am always looking for something different to give. What unusual gifts do you give or would like to receive as a gift?
I am ready for picnics with cupcakes and spring time party dresses! It 's a wonderful time to be a girl. Take a peak at some favorite girly girly sexy pieces!
So many fun pieces to choose from! Please share some of your spring time favorites!!
I have no idea how everyone else feels when an era is revisited. We all have our favorites, whether we lived through them or not. Sometimes though, I think certain eras are better left alone. Like when 80’s fashion tried to make a bit of a comeback, the thought scared the holy hell out of me. NO one looks good in neon hmmkay?! I wasn’t a teenager during the 80’s, so the most I can recall from that time period was E.T, Micheal Jackson and a love affair with Ralf Macchio. Yeah, Ralf Macchio looked pretty hot to me back then.
Alexa's Angels are so wonderful they are allowing me to host a giveaway for one of my lucky readers just in time for Mother's Day! The winner will be chosen through Random.org and the contest will run from April 12th to April 30th.
Want to guarantee your child doesn't succeed? Try giving them one of these awful types of names. Choosing an awful name for your kid is a quick way to ensure they grow up in all the wrong ways. What do you think about naming kids?
Last week I did some leg work to see what’s happening in the design world on Beverly Blvd in Los Angeles. Spring is definitely visible, and not only on the outside (my friend Shelly and I had a wonderful time walking the streets of L.A. on a beautiful, sunny day). The modern furniture store displays were shouting “Don’t you know that summer is right around the corner?!”
Beauty in a tube? Toning in just two minutes a day? Women are desperate for a quick fix to look good, slim down and be beautiful, all with minimal effort. But let's get real, and focus on what's really important.
After much anticipation Alice in Wonderland is finally in the theatres! Even though I'm delighted, I'd thougth I pay tribute to one of my other favorites and sources of inspiration: Little Red Riding Hood. I know I can definitely relate as a girl who has always been drawn into talking to my fair share of wolves in the forest.
I remember the first time I saw this music video I was totally gob smacked by Freddy Mercury's sexy mustachioed housewife.
The song and the video have a special place in my heart and never fail to cheer me.
I love drag queens because they can dress like women but without all of the pressure to look pretty or be sexy. I know there are plenty of women who dress like drag queens but they are few and far between and they tend to be Pop stars.
Have you ever looked at the way someone was dressed and thought "oh no, I hated bangs in the 80s and 90s, why are they coming back"? Well, recently, there have been a number of terrible resurgences so I ask you all: what are the worst trends ever to make a comeback.
Feel free to share some other terrible ones or even to share the 5 best fashion comebacks!
Is this all some secret girl-talk code? The designers pretend that they "lament" the problem and assure that all the while they are secretly designing their clothes for "real" women. Since men couldn't possibly care any less, then the whole fashion industry of Vogue, reality shows, the Paris fashion scene, etc., are all for women's benefit. Therefore, if you women wanted "real" women in these events they would be there. One can only conclude that you don't, so why all of the angst about an issue that clearly is not an issue?
Manhattan is pumping as fashion week is in full force. It might be snowing, basically arctic cold, in my opinion, but it's hot where the shows are. Just four shots from back stage at the Alexander Wang F/W 10 show ... Hello, Sexy!
This morning, as hubby was off to work and I was.... well... still gazing about the kitchen, he attempted to cheer me up, saying, "You take care of this house of 6 so well - I mean... um... look... everything in its place... clean... kids happy." And... I can't help but let my mind wander to the fact that.... well - they won't be happy for long; they'll fight. And... this laundry, dusting, vacuuming thing? Boring. And guess what's for dinner AGAIN tonight? Chicken and mashed potatoes and glazed carrots and... what's that? You're losing interest? Drifting a bit? Yeah.... me too.
Hitting 40 - defining personal style - dealing with 3 wee little kids and one soon to be high schooler - looking for a job and trying to define my role as "CEO of the Home".... I think I've come to the conclusion that it is CONFIDENCE that propels any of this successfully forward. I am looking for that elusive boost..... Anyone else?
A post that questions mid-level luxury brands and products, arguing that true luxury is Hermes (hand made goods) due to their value and high quality. Some brands are not luxurious.
But then what is luxury? Is a luxury brand different for you if your income changes? Is luxury for you today what it was for you 5 years ago? 10 years ago?
The Maker Faire is an event not to be missed. This year it was held in San Mateo, California and it was incredible. It is tailored made for the curious. All age groups, all types of people, all types of interests are represented in the most user-friendly environment I have been to in a very long time.
You may know her from Season 7 of Project Runway when MILA HERMANOVSKIplaced in the top three and showed a 10 piece Fall 2010 collection at Mercedes-Benz NY Fashion Week.

I love to sew, but never feel like I have the time. So I decided to plan out my next project over 5 short sessions, Mon-Fri. Taking a little bit at a time, I was able to make the reversible dress I wanted for my daughter and not feel like I killed myself to do it!
