I'm embarking on the 52 Weeks of Blogging your Passion journey and the first step in the process is developing your blog's mission statement. The mission statement serves as the focal point of your blog and all posts should be written with the umbrella of the mission in mind.
So what's my mission? In a nutshell, to support, promote and spread the word about indie designers, handmade artisans and independently owned brick and mortar shops and businesses.
So, what's your mission? How do you carry it out in your blog?
EeBay’s latest ad campaign includes promoting the eBay Green Team by pointing out how environmentally kind and ethical wearing previously owned clothing is: The greenest product is the one that already exists.
The facts presented in the promotion may be new, but the principal probably isn’t news to vintage fashion lovers & those who are generally thrifty. The question is, do you think this will change buying habits?
So it's getting warmer - but you're skint and still wearing your wintery garb. How can you update your wardrobe for spring and summer without spending too much, if anything? Would love to hear your thoughts - I'm doing a charity and fashion project in 2011 where I only wear second-hand clothes meaning I have to seek out fashion rather than it coming to me via the high street.

Remember those wireless phone commercials asking 'who is in your fab five'? Well today I ask you 'Who is in your RSS Fab Five?' - Name Five Blogs you make it a point to read daily.
I can't ask you to take up that challenge if I don't do it myself right? (I do hope I'm one of your fab five!)
My fabulous five blogs that I check out daily are: (and by the way, this is in NO particular order!)
Based on an advert for laser hair removal I read, I think we spend about a month shaving our legs. So on a blog post I wrote called "does laser hair removal really give you a month of free time?", I have challenged you to blog about how you spend your perfect month.
I can't wait to read the Buzz with your ideas and will give the Buzz I think is best $100 as a prize.
Hope you have as much fun thinking about it as I did.
I watch women, friends, every single day, and I am baffled. I have always done this, wondered why women put so much time and effort into things. And none of it is really for them, when they stop and think about it. They are not doing all of these things for themselves. They are doing it because other people expect it, or prefer it, or like it, or demand it, or whatever.
Ladies, how many of you have been professionally measured and fitted for a bra? Did you end up with a supportive, flattering and comfortable bra that looked and felt great?
If so, you're one of the lucky ones. Any woman who consults a so-called professional bra fitter risks having the wrong size thrust upon her.
I love to sew and it's a great way to recycle things. Like, for example, this old pair of BDUs (cargo pants). I turned them into a shoulder bag that has lots of pockets, holds lots of stuff, and that I love to carry around. Check it out here - http://darkthreads.blogspot.com/2010/09/upcycling-bdus.html
Corx, a company that designs beautiful handbags made from cork from Portugal. Vegan, and sustainability never looked so beautiful. I loved them so much I purchased the backpack and got more compliments in one day. My instincts were right, these bags are special.
This year, I’m thinking about wearing only second-hand clothes for a year – well, buying them. In the name of charity - namely Macmillan Cancer Support. From charity shops, vintage markets and eBay. I’ll be spending less on clothes, making less impulse purchases, wearing more unusual things, accessorising better, giving more money to charity and generally not giving money to sweatshop factories via the high street.
I have a longstanding obsession with crowns, and luckily their are all sorts of avenues to satisfy my cravings.
Imagery, clip art and lovely crowns made by humans for humans. You don't have to have royal blood, although I believe every man, woman and child does, to wear a crown.
So bring out the magical side of your personality and bring a crown into your life. They are beautiful.
It's usually a top 10 or 15 of my favorite things for that month.
This month is a top 15.
November's list includes: handmade bracelets made form tea cups, winter fashion, favorites from Etsy sellers, favorite holiday foods, winter makeup (beauty), inspiration photos, making Christmas crafts and the like, as well as making your own brooch (fashion), books, and unique art work.
This is a post about two popular styles of decorating and how strongly people feel about one or the other. In it, I excerpt some comments from readers on Apartment Therapy and also explain how shabby chic has evolved from a feminine to a more eclectic style. Photos I took in a popular home boutique in Chicago are included in my post.
ModCloth is my favorite online vintage boutique. It has everything from dresses reminiscent of pin-up girls and the 'fifties, to eclectic accessories and unique apartment decor.
I have proposed a challenge to myself, and would like to bring this challenge to my readers/friends here.
Earlier this month, I started to clean up my drawers stocked full of wonderful beads and finding, I was looking at them realizing a lot of them I had forgot I even had. They were way at the back!
This is when I decided to take the challenge of not buying ANY more beads until my current stash is in beautiful pieces of jewellery.
This is part two of the wardrobe remix posts. Some of you may be familiar with Flickr's popular group "Wardrobe Remix". This is based on that. Some individual photos can be found there as well. This blog is a more detailed extension of "Wardrobe Remix". Includes different shots of outfits, outfits paired with different accessories, and personal style.
When you give an ordinary run-of-the-mill gift, sure you fulfill an obligation, but that's about all you do. When you give unique, unusual gifts, you show the people receiving them that you really care. You show that you took the time to seek out something different—something that shows you're giving a gift because you want to, not simply because you have to.
I love to shop for birthays and holidays. I am always looking for something different to give. What unusual gifts do you give or would like to receive as a gift?
I am ready for picnics with cupcakes and spring time party dresses! It 's a wonderful time to be a girl. Take a peak at some favorite girly girly sexy pieces!
So many fun pieces to choose from! Please share some of your spring time favorites!!
I have no idea how everyone else feels when an era is revisited. We all have our favorites, whether we lived through them or not. Sometimes though, I think certain eras are better left alone. Like when 80’s fashion tried to make a bit of a comeback, the thought scared the holy hell out of me. NO one looks good in neon hmmkay?! I wasn’t a teenager during the 80’s, so the most I can recall from that time period was E.T, Micheal Jackson and a love affair with Ralf Macchio. Yeah, Ralf Macchio looked pretty hot to me back then.
Alexa's Angels are so wonderful they are allowing me to host a giveaway for one of my lucky readers just in time for Mother's Day! The winner will be chosen through Random.org and the contest will run from April 12th to April 30th.
Want to guarantee your child doesn't succeed? Try giving them one of these awful types of names. Choosing an awful name for your kid is a quick way to ensure they grow up in all the wrong ways. What do you think about naming kids?
Last week I did some leg work to see what’s happening in the design world on Beverly Blvd in Los Angeles. Spring is definitely visible, and not only on the outside (my friend Shelly and I had a wonderful time walking the streets of L.A. on a beautiful, sunny day). The modern furniture store displays were shouting “Don’t you know that summer is right around the corner?!”
A great way to get people to read your blog is to play detective and post an answer to a question that many people have but rarely think to ask. I recently did just this to find out why women's shirts button the wrong way.
All you have to do is a bit of research and you can put together an interesting, entertaining article that makes people say "I always wondered about that!)
