IE6 is ruining Web Design: Or is it us?

 

We all know how awful IE6 interprets CSS. We bend over backwards making hacks, conditional statements, and disgusting code so we can make the client happy. Because of our efforts, we get the paycheck, but we also ensure that IE6 will stick around that much longer.

 

My question is: Would you personally eliminate IE6 support in your design for the sake of progressing the web?

There Was A Funeral For IE6, So Why Are We Still Designing For It?

I use to like Internet Explorer. There are some uses – like the fact there are people that use it and view my site with it. However, it seems there are people who missed the updates and still use Internet Explorer 6 (IE6.) I still see people viewing my site in IE6 and know my PNG images look crappy to them. Oh well, I am not changing it for IE6 and I do not optimize sites for it. As a web designer, it is my choice and I am not afraid to tell my clients why I do not.

The Plague of IE6: Throw the Monkey into the River!

Back when Internet Explorer 6 was mainstream, it was normal practice for web developers to implement hacks for code to work properly in that browser. But are some of us still encouraging this practice? What part are web developers playing in spreading this disease?
