Great sustainable housing- UpCycle Living
A good friend of mine just sent me the link to the UpCycle site. UpCycle takes shipping containers and transforms them into amazing housing. I found one plan for a structure in Flagstaff, AZ (A place I might want to live one day).
UpCycle currently has a proposal in to provide emergency shelter to Haiti as their country recovers from the past disasters.
The concept of using shipping containers is unique and innovative. The plans shown on their site make shipping containers look like comfortable, livable, green homes. How great is that!?

upcycle living a unique way of life
When I read this post on “Great Sustainable Housing” over at Adventures of a Granola Ginger by Chelsea Martin, I was blown away by the concept of green living using shipping containers. Upcycle Living has developed the concept of taking prefabricated modules and turning them into complete designs for affordable and sustainable house that does more than just house space needed.
Upcycle offered their services to aid in the lack of shelters in Haiti after several disasters left citizens homeless and with nowhere to go. Several shipping containers were used to build dining halls, bunk houses and quarters for those needing accommodations to keep them safe.

#UpCycle Gives Renters a New Green Option for Home Ownership
There is promise for affordable housing and home ownership – UpCycle. The company that is in business for recycling shipping containers, you know those gigantic steel boxes used to ship our stuff around the world on freighters and trains? Yes, those things. Don’t shrug this idea off so quickly. UpCycle creates beautiful homes like ones found in Arizona that can take the heat and still keep you cool. It’s the new modular home, but with much more flair and eco in mind. And affordable. Prices for these types of homes can be as affordable as $28-40k.
