Grateful for Depresson?

Am I grateful for my depression?  Definitely.  I can't imagine where I would be in life right now if I didn't have this illness.  It's a curse and a blessing - I don't know how else to describe it.  I certainly don't want to make it sound like depression is like winning the lottery and that everyone would be lucky to live with it - but since I DO have to live with it I've decided to stop fighting it and learn from it instead.  Our life is a journey in self-discovery.  My depression has led me this far - and led me to wonderful people and places.  I truly believe the universe has its plans for each and every one of us and that plan is working out as it should.

Hope's Journey

"There was a time when all I wanted was to die but now that I have tasted life I really don’t want to die until I have truly lived!" Hope's Journey is a heart wrenching account of Angela's struggle with depression & suicide.
"This book is helpful for people that are going through tough times as well for those who are trying to support them. It gives valuable insight into the feelings experienced in the midst of the situations as well as the tools Angela used to find her way through them. The tools are useful for anyone trying to find hope in dark situations, whatever they may be, and are helpful for leading a stronger, more balanced life." Ali Kirkwood

So many people write negative things about mental health it gets a stigma and suddenly every one fears anything to do with the mind i read a couple of blogs one on depression and one on sadness both are basicly telling you that you can live with these things but the main point is actually learn from these things dont let depression or any other illness take you down learn to live positively about them. and if you do have depression of mental health problems dont just relly on meds.

Hope Despite Depression

Many of us endure psychological problems - invisible but positive in a strange way. As difficult as living with chronic illness is, I identify my chronic illnesses with myself as much as my left arm. Those of us who understand the constant battle have to help one another.

I Am The Victim For A Moment

When extreme circumstances present themselves it is easy to adopt a "why me attitude".
When Traci was told her son would never experience more an a perpetually vegetative existence after car accident, she refused to allow herself or her son to become victims of depression and hopelessness.
When my Grandson lay in a coma due to a gun shot wound that destroyed a greater portion of his brain, our family was given the same diagnosis.
Both beat the odds in miraculous ways. Neither family would allow depression to beat it.
The demons of doubt came to me personally as I watched one walk. Why I asked, Oh, God, why?

Dealing with Depression

I've suffered with Depression since I was 14 years old, but as I discuss in my blog post Dealing with Depression I'm not sure I'd want to be cured, because my depression is bound up with so many other important aspects of my personality and creativity.

The Mother of all Depressions

"Hope Despite Depression" writes with so much openness about depression and shares the idea of being grateful. I have at my bedside, a "Gratitude Journal" in which each night I write down the five things I'm grateful for at that moment. It's hard to submit to depression when you see right before you at least five things you're happy and blessed to have in life.
This blog inspired me last night to share my experiences with depression in my own blog. In fact, I've titled it on Wordpress as, "The Mother of all Depressions." It's just after 3:30 a.m. here in Phoenix, Arizona and I wanted to thank "Hope Despite Depression" and to share some of what I am learning!

Unlikely Joys

Is there an upside to stress? To Depression? Can the reptilian brain produce anything good?
Is it just a matter of perspective? I finally found some good press about some usually unfortunate situations.

The Bag Lady - the Cause of Her Own Depression

Being ungrateful and ignorant in life can become the root of much distress. Certainly, depression is a medical condition. It can be a chemical imbalance, or simply a natural reaction to disappointment in life. While I believe that some forms of depression are unavoidable, I think that other forms are - like in my case. I kind of made the decisions that brought about distress and difficulty in my own life. This could have been prevented if I had been more considerate of others, not held certain things and people as more important than my family, and was more willing to face my problems instead of running from them.

What are you grateful for in your Life

Everyday when you first wake up you need to take a minute and focus on what you are thankful for that day. Think of them, appreciate them and move on with your day. Starting on this positive note will help your day be a little brighter and motivate you to overcome the challenges you might face that day. By doing this you are programming your mind to think positively.

Sadness - It Does a Body Good

Sadness, depression, and despair - they can all come knocking from time to time. However with the alchemy of searching for the blessing in any challenge, we can sometimes find a little gold in all that lead.
