Going Local - How do YOU Use Social Media to Boost Local Business?
Those of us who are active in Social Media realize it's value as both a new form of expression and as a new form of promotion.
But many local businesses still don't "get it". They don't understand the whole social media phenomenon and are skeptical that it has anything to offer their local business.
But can social media be an effective advertising, marketing or sales tool for local business? How have YOU used social media to boost local business?

Using Social Networking Sites To Promote Your Small Business
I don’t have a business (yet) and I’m not self-employed (yet) but Rouge Make-up Artistry does already have an online presence and I feel that I am working towards the future. I have created pages on Facebook, MySpace, Bebo and Zimbio and although they are currently very basic they at least mean that RougeMUA is out there!
I’ve created a business plan (which constantly changes as I do more research and new ideas come to mind) and my hope is that when I do become a Freelance Make-up Artist I will already be out there with an online history spanning a year or two, maybe even three or four, and people will feel reassured that I haven’t just popped up out of obscurity.

Convincing Local Businesses Why They Should Have An Internet Presence
Don Power askes a great question: Going Local – How do You Use Social Media to Boost Local Business?
Teaching social media can be a tough when it comes to teaching small town local businesses. I know because I live in such an area. A lot of these business owners want immediate results and even though the prospect of having a presence online might light a bulb, it can be downright scary.
When speaking to these business owners, they are passionate and want to succeed. They are not big businesses, so they may even be family owned and operated. Always remember that. These are people you will encounter locallly on occasion at the store or library. It is important you are honest with them too.

Business Beautiful: Blog Beautiful
As you may have noticed, one of the reasons I truly L-O-V-E blogs is their capability to easily undergo facelifts. New backgrounds, new buttons, new banners, new fonts, new colors, and on and on. Yes, I realize that at some point a person (especially someone using a blog as a marketing tool) might want to stick to an image - but others, like me, really might find that it's kinda like cleaning house... without all the effort... or Windex.
I recently came across an article by Don Power entitled "Going Local – How do You Use Social Media to Boost Local Business?" and it got me thinking about how I use social media - from blogs to Facebook (and I use both) and for both work and personal use. Blogging has certainly been a learning venture for me, from giving myself a refresher on HTML (things have changed a little since 8th grade webmastering class - and yes, that class existed AND I took it) to finding resources on blog design, strategy, and focus.
