Frugality-Not Just for the Poor

The negative connotations of frugality are undeserved when you understand the true meaning of the word. But true frugality is not just about coupon clipping, nor is it about deprivation. For the poor, frugality is the only road to prosperity. But when the rich practice frugality (and some do) it is called "voluntary simplicity". On a large scale it is called sustainability. Frugality is for everyone if it is done right.

Have a greener holiday season

Some green (and inexpensive) gift ideas include offering services such as massage or your own special talent. This could be a painting you've created, special edible treats, babysitting or house cleaning. How about a baking mix with instructions or a spice mixture you have created? I have created my own chai mix with loose tea and spices. Another creative and treasured idea is to videotape elderly parents or grandparents about their childhood memories along with their photos and heirlooms while they discuss them.

Frugality Is Wasted on The Rich

I agree that by its' meaning alone, there is frugality in all financial classes of people, but it is often wasted on the rich. It is somewhat an oxymoron to call a rich guy "frugal". The money he may spend on a Mercedes instead pf buying a Rolls Poyce, surely won't make him "frugal". Frugality is the neccessity of man and saving ourselves from what lie ahead. It will only be those of us who are forced to learn this lesson, that will use it, the rest I think it may be too late!

Frugal is the New Green

Being frugal and green are not mutually exclusive. There are many ways to be both frugal and environmentally responsible without feeling "cheap" or "poor." Frugality is not about eliminating comfort from your life, it's about not wasting things and taking better care of what you have. So is being environmentally responsible.

Questions to Ask Ourselves about Frugality

In the current economy many people are cutting back on “extras”, or at least attempting to. But are we as frugal as we think we are?
Clearly “cutting back” is not the same as adopting frugality as a lifestyle, but it is definitely a step in the right direction.
Is there value in being “only sometimes” frugal?
Can we really be happy being frugal in a world of plenty alongside “the Joneses”?
Does this “Excess Stuff” truly make us happier in the long run?
Is frugality an “All or Nothing” Game?
