Films to look out for in 2011
True Grit:
Dir. Joel & Ethan Coen
A Coen brothers remake of the classic western based on the novel by Charles Portis. Jeff Bridges, staring in his first Coen brothers film since The Big Lebowski, assumes the role made famous by John Wayne. Newcomer Hailee Steinfeld plays 14 year old Mattie Ross, who hires a one-eyed marshal (Bridges) to hunt down the man who robbed and killed her father. Also stars Matt Damon and Josh Brolin.
Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy:
Dir. Thomas Alfredson
Director of Let The Right One In, has lined up a excellent British cast (Gary Oldman, Tom Hardy, Colin Firth and Mark Strong) for an icy Cold War drama based on the novel by John Le Carre.
The Black Swan:
Dir. Darren Aronofsky
Opens Jan 21st
The eagerly awaited psychological thriller from Darren Aronofsky, director of The Westler and Requim for a Dream. It stars Natalie Portman as a understudy in the New York City ballet and Vincent Cassel as the artistic director who decides she should replace prima ballerina Beth Macintyre (Winona Ryder) in the new production of Swan Lake. Look out for the stunning poster collection by British design studio LaBoca (see below). Influenced by Polish and Czech posters of the 60’s and 70’s the posters were designed, not merely to market the film, but accompany it as part of the overall experience.
Tyrannosaur:
Dir. Paddy Considine
Renowned British actor Paddy Considine’s first feature film stars Peter Mullen (Red Riding) as a tortured and violent sole who finds hope of salvation through a friendship with Christian charity-shop worker Olivia Coleman (Peep Show). Due to premier at Sundance Film Festival at the end of January.

MushReviews - Black Swan
I'm sure you know the overall plot for this movie but in case not I'll give a brief rundown. A ballerina is chosen to play the parts of the White Swan and then the Black Swan in play put on by her dancing troupe. The problems come when she starts to imagine that the new girl is trying to take her spot. What follows is actually a pretty dark thriller, not what some people were expecting at all I feel.

Darkmatters Top Films For 2011
2011 looks like being a great year for films - here's what to look out for... Including what I'm tipping to be the 'film of the year':
Sucker Punch - Zack ‘300’ Snyder is going for ‘Alice in Wonderland with machine guns’... Get ready for heavy duty fantasy with more babes, bullets, robots, samurai and bloodshed than is strictly necessary. This is my tip to be the coolest movie of 2011.
