An e-mail from Microsoft tonight tells us that Windows Phone 7 will be launching with a whole roster of Xbox Live games to push the envelope of mobile gaming.
Is the clock ticking down for the social game giant? I hope not not just because I play the games but for the industry as a whole. Social gaming is big business and if Zynga falls what about the other companies who are investing heavily and trying to use Zynga’s model as a guide. Does it mean the end of social gaming across Facebook or will they learn from the mistakes of the social giant and avoid those issues with the players ? We also have a poll to see what bothers Mafia Wars players the most. Check it out some staggering number here.
An in-depth review of Mass Effect 2. Easily one of the best games ever released on the Xbox 360, and definitely the best game I've played in a long, long time.
We are currently part of a gaming industry that has come to terms with piracy. It has realised that piracy does occur and just crying and moaning is just not going to stop it. In the first of the series, Adam looks at the Online Pass, a relatively new method of curbing the increasing rate of pirated games.
It is our first competition and hopefully the start of many more to come. The trick up for grabs is the folding key by Joe Porper with a $159.95 value.
The competition will run up until the end of September. All that is needed is to refer one friend to the site. All members that are able to refer somebody by the above date will be put in to a hat (or bowl) and one name will be drawn at random.
I was a fan of the first Dragon Age game. The characters were memorable, the story and world gleamed with that Bioware quality they always put into such things, and the combat encouraged actual tactics. However, the old school style of just choosing exactly what you want to say in conversations via big blocks of text left something to be desired, especially after Bioware’s OTHER nerdgasm, Mass Effect, used a fully voiced main character.
Rockstar has their formula down. They’ve been building greek tragedies in a sandbox for years and they’ve polished that pearl quite nicely. GTA IV showed us some new things, Red Dead Redemption brought them to the next level, but L.A. Noire is the sweet culmination of all that hard work. I’ve been a Rockstar fan since I memorized the weapons codes for GTA III on Venice’s Playstation, I even played a little top-down GTA II with my senior year roommate. But looking back it’s almost unfair to make comparisons.
So, I love Minecraft. There is no disputing this. Notch made an awesome game. In November my addiction was just cracking out of its shell. We were discussing the impending additions of hostile mobs and the nether to our SMP server and the possibility of torches eventually burning out. But then, as I delved deeper and deeper into the Reddit and YouTube communities I began to take an interest in mods. Finally I found it. The Better Than Wolves mod. It was beautiful.
There are a couple of things everybody should know about Nintendo. First, their developers seem to derive some sick pleasure from finding new and exciting ways to kill and generally infuriate you as you try to navigate their bizarre worlds. Second, their office must be in some dark, dank basement full of cubicles designed to isolate their employees from each other and humanity as a whole because multiplayer capabilities have always been not just an after thought, but intentionally complicated if not impossible.
Eight hours. That’s about how long it took me to plow through Valve’s puzzle gaming masterpiece Portal 2. It’s not exactly a long game, but honestly it was already a done deal as soon as they announced there would be a sequel to the three-hour long original cult classic a while back. I knew I’d be getting the game. I was more than a little worried about how it would turn out. With a chaotically lovable insane AI, a unique game mechanic and a near endless series of memes, the first Portal captured the hearts of millions, with only a three percent fatalit
Apple has uncovered the top 10iPhone and iPadapps of all-time. However, it is obvious that the social network giant – Facebook has gained the top spot as the number one free app of all times. Continue Reading to know the details:
I don’t think I’ve made any attempts to hide the fact that I find old timey, turn-of-the-century clothing to be utterly hilarious. Give me tophats, give me monocles, and make sure to throw in a bit of that classic I-am-so-serious-its-ridiculous attitude, and you’ll quickly find your way into my ridicule.
I’m not really a scary movie type person. It’s not that I dislike being scared but I feel like finding a good horror movie amidst the giant sea of absolute crap that comes out is very difficult. I want the scares to be EARNED. I want a plot that at least makes sense. Most movies fail miserably. One game that surprised (and scared!) the hell out of me though was Dead Space. An original property from EA (weird, I know) that supposedly was less about action and more about making you curl up in the fetal position had me intrigued.
Yoostar 2 allows you to 'enter' hundreds of famous movie scenes, record your performances, and upload them to impress your friends and family who can view and rate them online. It is Darkmatters' hot tip for pure movie / game crossover fun for 2011!
Recently we gave the boys a hunting game......this has been a great activity and good way to learn about about science, geography, animals, engineering, and have fun at the same time.
This game is sure to please any boy, or dad, interested in hunting.
As I’ve mentioned before, I grew up a naive PC gamer. I was partial to the LucasArts games, Day o f the Tentacle, X-wing, and the like. There’s nothing like a machine with more input buttons than letters in the alphabet. Not to mention the PC was high-definition with full anti-aliasing before it was cool. So what’s one of the best games on the PC today? I have to say it's a very simple block building game in beta testing called Minecraft. The game entered beta testing on Dec. 20 and before that it was available to customers in a constantly buggy form.
Fallout: New Vegas puts a bit of a western spin on the established franchise and gives us yet another look into how the rest of the country is surviving the apocalypse. Sure Washington DC has seen better days, and man California is a total wasteland, but seriously who cares about that? Did all the prostitutes survive? Oh god let Vegas be okay.
I was lucky enough to attend Blizzcon 2010, Blizzards sort of yearly festival of nerding the f out. I figure at this point if you’re a person who is all over every detail of every Blizzard games (such as ME) then you probably have all the newsy stuff digested already. The aim of this article is not to summarize all the stuff Blizzard dropped on us (which there actually wasn’t a ton) but more give a point of view of what it was like to actually be at the con and walk the hallowed halls of the Anaheim Convention Center.

I need to start this review by being honest about something: I am the target audience for Alan Wake. I’ve watched the X-Files like it was my job (except those episodes with Robert Patrick, that show ended 3 seasons too late). I’ve read Stephen King, James Joyce, Bret Easton Ellis (the game draws most heavily from Lunar Park, which is a shame, because that is the bottom of the Ellis lot. Although a whole game about disenfranchised youth would be pretty boring. An American Psycho game? BRING IT ON), Edgar Allen Poe, and I’m a devoted H.P.
I’m going to lay down a scene for you here, so I’m going to need you to take a deep breath, empty your mind, and follow along with me for a moment. Ready? Good. So, America has been wrecked, and the only landmarks you’ve ever known have been the crumbling remains of once great cities, the former home of more people than you can even wrap your mind around. There are mechs everywhere. They want to punch you in the face for some reason. But you don’t care.
A recent interview with Peter Molyneux (Creative Director of Microsoft Game Studios and mind behind Black & White and Fable series) revealed that he doesn't believe he's ever made a 'great game'.
