Does Alexa ranking matter to you?
One topic that bloggers and webmasters always seem to debate about is Alexa ranking. In case you do not know what Alexa ranking is, it is a ranking system that is based on traffic to your site. I relate it to the Nielsen ratings for TV. Alexa makes their determinates by looking at traffic from those users that have the Alexa toolbar installed. Many folks in the web world will make a judegement that the lower your Alexa scorte, the better your site. For example, Google has an Alexa ranking of 1. It seems that bloggers are split right down the middle with some bloggers saying Alexa rankings are not accurate and do not matter and other bloggers do everything they can to improve Alexa ranking .I am a blogger that likes to make money and therefore Alexa ranking is important to me . What do you think?

Alexa Matters Tons and Not at All
To me it does matter, its a social media monitoring metric, and metrics matter. However, all social media metrics should be taken with a grain a salt. Alexa is one piece of the puzzle, by itself its pretty useless, and it can even be faked to some extent, or gamed. Still, it is a number that at least can show that your site gets some decent traffic, or not.
If you're trying to find out the social media statistics for yourself, or another company. I recommend using alexa along with google pagerank, backlinks, compete, google analytics, and statcounter to gauge the amount of traffic the site brings in.

Does Alexa Rank Really Matter?
Some would argue that it is not worth it and is only a system to track traffic. In fact a lot of the traffic they track usually depends on whether or not your visitor installed the Alexa tool bar. So how does Alexa put together a number for each site?
According to Alexa’s FAQ How are Alexa’s traffic rankings determined?, traffic rank is determined by the number of uses of their toolbar. The uses are divvied between page views and reach. The Even if you visit a site multiple times, your visit is only counted once. Again, this is solely based on Alexa users.
So what could this mean for some people who want to improve it?
This means that you should probably encourage your visitors to download the Alexa toolbar. For those who have websites already, it might be a good thing as there are plugins for Firefox that you can install and monitor your Alexa rank without even directly visiting the site.

5 Ways To Dramatically Increase Your Alexa Ranking
Here's a great post about the infamous Alexa Ranking.
The Alexa ranking is all about the strength of your site and is dependent on the amount of traffic your pulling to the site.

2 Month Anniversary – Challenges, Achievements, and Goals
Today is March 2, 2010. This is the 60th day that I’ve been Looking For My Life. Though it’s only been two months, the journey has been long.
Fortunately, the journey is becoming less and less of a solo venture, and increasingly one that involves a community of people. As more and more people have expressed to me how much they enjoy reading the blog, and as readers are contributing with their comments, I’ve been given the fuel to keep on writing for you all.
It certainly helps that I enjoy every bit of this process, even the more mundane tasks of dealing with scripts and codes can be interesting. Still, while this blog is coming along well thus far, there is much to be accomplished.
Continuing with the 1 Month Anniversary - Challenges, Achievements, and Goals post, I’d like to take this opportunity to reflect about the challenges, achievements, and goals once again.
