After the recent death of an innocent man due to an accident near the 59th Street Bridge and Second Ave I have taken the time to pay attention to my actions on the road, and I must say at times I do not follow all the rules. So, I had to take a moment to ask myself why I keep putting myself in danger.
I see a lot of people going on mission trips nowadays, and I always marvel at the ability of young adults to ask for money while giving nothing but fuzzy feelings in return. So, after I decided to spend part of my winter break in a Honduran orphanage, I wanted a way for people to support me in exchange for something more than a thank you. I'm only really good at a few things, and one of those things, people are willing to pay for. From this idea/talent combo sprung forth a photo campaign: Smile For Honduras!
While doing the Thing A Day Challenge for February, I’ve run across a ton of beautiful crochet heart patterns – all for free. These are all first rate designs given freely by the creators. I wanted to get these beautiful designs in one easily accessable place and share them with other crafters, as well as give a shout out to the designers. If you knit or crochet, I hope you enjoy this round up. And even if you don't, you can still feast on some great eye candy photography and get your hands on a piece or two or thr
Much has been written about the modern scourge of tourists with their camera phones, roaming galleries more intent on taking photos of (or more precisely, having someone take their photo in front of) famous works of art than actually looking at the art itself. And call me a curmudgeon, but when I see this myself I give a little shiver of condemnation. It just doesn’t seem right when people are more interested in the artefact of their travels—the photograph, the trinket, the t-shirt—than they are in the actual experience.
I write about dogs ,tell you how to take care of you pets, in easy ways that you can understand or you can laugh at them .Hope you check it out love to here from you about how you like it or hate it
As an artist and a crafter, color is very important to me. Even in my everyday life. I recently started thinking about the colors of my neighborhood, and of my favorite vacation spot, and how they made me feel.
Determine the colors of your home, and play along!

Camping is always an adventure. However, on our first camping journey of the summer, we weren't expecting to get lost for four and a half hours in "Mystery Valley", almost roll our 4x4 over, get a flat tire, and not get a single day of sun or night of stars. Yet we still managed to have some amazing moments, and amongst the bickering, my partner and I grew much closer to our wonderful friends and co-adventurers. No matter what happens, getting out of the big city and sitting by a fire in silence while digging your hands into the Earth is incredibly healing.
I'm on week three of Project 365--an Internet phenomenon where people take a picture a day. It's been an interesting project, and I often wonder why I get involved in these types of things. In the long run, I think it will help me improve my photography skills (or at least be a better snapshot taker). It gets overwhelming, frustrating, and discouraging at times because I'm not sure what to take a picture of, or I don't think the picture is all that good. It would be nice to get some support to help me keep going. I invite you to join me on my journey as I striv
A humourous look at abandoned shopping carts and an attempt to "classify" them as specific species. Characteristics, field marks that are helpfull to identify the carts, behaviour, and ecology are addressed. Part of an ongoing series of posts.
Not only is St. Patty’s Day a feast day for St. Patrick. It’s a day to celebrate one’s heritage. A jovial day that proclaims, “Everyone is Irish on St. Patty’s Day!”. Green beer is drunk by the gallons. People parade out on the streets showing their Irish Pride. Some have to wear green in order to not get pinched. (Thankfully my eyes are green so I’m good there lol) My husband is Scottish and I am Irish. We joke that our relatives were just across the way.
I am Anti-Kraft. That made sure that I never get any sponsorships from them hehe! Kraft mac & cheese was a luxury in my house…except I hated it. My mom massacred it beyond recognition. The noodles were soggy and fell apart. She didn’t use milk in it just margarine. My dad who’s idea of a meal was hot dogs and popcorn made it taste edible…he even put other cheeses in it. You know the non powdered variety. The majority of the time it was the el cheapo stuff.
Taking digital photos can change the way you share & organize your photo memories. You don’t need to be an professional photographer, or an artist, to get the most out of your digital photos.
I have been known to snap off 1000 shots in a weekend…thank goodness for my MAC and Photoshop:)Still working on my filing system, though:)
Manhattan is pumping as fashion week is in full force. It might be snowing, basically arctic cold, in my opinion, but it's hot where the shows are. Just four shots from back stage at the Alexander Wang F/W 10 show ... Hello, Sexy!
I grew up in the inner city of Philadelphia with a single mom and two siblings; I had no chance of ever going to college, having a permanent home, or even feeling safe. God has redeemed my life in big ways, to say the very least. He took something from the dirt and turned it into a thing of beauty; He continues to work in me every day. I was taken in at 15 by a missionary couple, and I have now graduated high school and attend Pfeiffer University in NC, a dream I never thought possible.
This month has been about making huge sweeping changes in my life...this dreamboard represents what I want, where I want to go, where I am going...even if I am only now catching a clue as to how I am going to get there. At least I am moving and progressing. At least I can say on some level I get it now.
Sometimes you just have to brainstorm with someone. Since I work in my studio alone I don't often get to bounce ideas off of people. So here it is....I need some words that are interesting and really pack a punch. Like the word READ- it says it all in 4 letters. I create these wall pieces called Photo Words. I take pictures of actual letters and objects that look like letters of the alphabet and then spell a word with them.
Manhattan offers a cornucopia of delights that keep us all up, buzzing around in search of the next great trend; basically any new thing. The City that never sleeps is a great place to wander around with friends; dashing here and there in search of good deals and discovering quaint and quality places.
On a recent sojourn through the city, I followed my muse to Chelsea Market, High Line Park, Chinatown, and Veniero’s Pasticceria. I have shared my journey in a write-up/photo journal in two parts.
As photographers, our personal projects carry us through in times of little or uninteresting work, and keep us passionate about our subjects. In this post I Introduce my new portrait project, and the gentle alternative community which it focusses on. What do your personal projects fulfill in you? I'd like to hear about your creative projects in all forms.
I photographed a mom, with her toddler and her 12 day old newborn triplets. My images capture what a blessing they are! These surely tested my skills as a family/child photographer, to get all 3 sleeping to not only get images of them together, seperately and then incorporating their big brother (and if you know anything about toddlers in getting them to do what YOU want) and their mom. I am very happy with the results. What do you think?
Some say my little porch "magick" garden has turned into a jungle as we've entered the warmest months of summer. My newfound love of gardening continues to provide me incredible joy, every morning as I watch the flowers wake up in the light of dawn, and every evening at dusk, when I water and care for my plants.
Here's a new photo gallery of my garden. I would love to see yours, and get some tips from thumbs that are greener than mine are yet!
