Much has been written about the modern scourge of tourists with their camera phones, roaming galleries more intent on taking photos of (or more precisely, having someone take their photo in front of) famous works of art than actually looking at the art itself. And call me a curmudgeon, but when I see this myself I give a little shiver of condemnation. It just doesn’t seem right when people are more interested in the artefact of their travels—the photograph, the trinket, the t-shirt—than they are in the actual experience.

While doing the Thing A Day Challenge for February, I’ve run across a ton of beautiful crochet heart patterns – all for free. These are all first rate designs given freely by the creators. I wanted to get these beautiful designs in one easily accessable place and share them with other crafters, as well as give a shout out to the designers. If you knit or crochet, I hope you enjoy this round up. And even if you don't, you can still feast on some great eye candy photography and get your hands on a piece or two or thr
My attempt at gardening with my toddler came up a little short this year. But what a joyful experience it is to watch children explore their world with enthusiasm and wonder. Got some great photos, a few sprouts, and a lot of memories. All it took was dirt, some hard labor, and a few seeds. So, how does YOUR garden grow? Are you a newbie with a probationary green thumb, like me? Or are you a master gardener with advice to share? Come and join in my gardening trials at Toddler In Tow. I look forward to talking "green stuff" with you!
I discuss some of the local farmer's markets in my town and the benefit of buying directly from the farmers that grow your food. I also share my week's CSA share.

What are the places that speak to your heart and draw on your soul? Where was it you travelled to when you felt like you were coming home even though you had never been there before? What places have inspired you and how?
Share your photography, art, poetry and prose that has been inspired by the places that speak to your heart and draw on your soul.
Watching the Sound of Music inspired me...it usually does. I always get the urge to glide out of my little house twirlling my front yard singing with all my might. Makes me forget the pavement is uneven, and the door doesn't stayed closed unless you bolt it and well the neighbors are not really the Sound of Music "type," so movie inspirations have to go elsewhere.
I am constantly looking for inspiration. When I am feeling particularly spent from a long binge of writing there are a few tricks that seem to get me going...

After a little self induced pep talk, I attended my first Screenwriter's Alliance meeting. I found this group on Facebook, and followed their posts for a couple of months. Many of the members of this group are published authors, teachers of the craft, or in the film business. I was invited to bring a script to share, but thought just showing up would be enough exposure for the first time. There was that little wrestle with fear, and an unending list of reasons not to go. Sometimes you just have to get uncomfortable to grow.
Frames are expensive! I give you some ideas on how as a professional photographer I have taken unusual objects and used them to creatively frame my work. Save money, recycle and start conversations!
Over the course of the past decade or so, I have run across many writers who, like me, suffer from bouts of depression or some other social or mental problem. It made me wonder if perhaps that was somehow connected to the creative process, if being a little off helped the juices flow.
How many of you creative types, need not be writer, suffer from any of the above issues? Do you feel it helps or is a hindrance?
Happy New Year everyone! Does anyone else just feel like they got this new burst of energy to make your life better? I am glad that I do because I really needed something. I felt like I was in a rut for the past few weeks and all I wanted to do was hibernate. This new feeling is nice and I am not even jacked up on coffee. :)

After many years as a stay at home mom, my kids are all in school now and I am I am entering back into the work force. I love being able to work from home (though it does present it's own unique challenges). Regardless of where or how you work or what you do (and I am the first to admit that staying home with kids is work!) it's great to think about the things you love about your job. It's a great exercise!
As an artist and a crafter, color is very important to me. Even in my everyday life. I recently started thinking about the colors of my neighborhood, and of my favorite vacation spot, and how they made me feel.
Determine the colors of your home, and play along!
Camping is always an adventure. However, on our first camping journey of the summer, we weren't expecting to get lost for four and a half hours in "Mystery Valley", almost roll our 4x4 over, get a flat tire, and not get a single day of sun or night of stars. Yet we still managed to have some amazing moments, and amongst the bickering, my partner and I grew much closer to our wonderful friends and co-adventurers. No matter what happens, getting out of the big city and sitting by a fire in silence while digging your hands into the Earth is incredibly healing.
