Are you inspired?

Watching the Sound of Music inspired me...it usually does.  I always get the urge to glide out of my little house twirlling my front yard singing with all my might. Makes me forget the pavement is uneven, and the door doesn't stayed closed unless you bolt it and well the neighbors are not really the Sound of Music "type," so movie inspirations have to go elsewhere.

I am constantly looking for inspiration.  When I am feeling particularly spent from a long binge of writing there are a few tricks that seem to get me going...

Content is the New Black

After spending way too much time on Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook lately, I can’t help but notice the amount of content people are generating and aggregating. I follow people “professionally” on Twitter and LinkedIn, and I see articles and blog posts on almost every topic imaginable. People are using social media to develop their personal and professional brands.

So is content the new black? Is content replacing creative?

Maybe replacing isn’t the right word, but content is definitely making a comeback.

Blogging is Like Sex – Anyone can do it…but few Master It

Take a look at how I compare blogging with having sex. How do you separate yourself from everyone else? A lot of people have the ability to have sex, but few become incredible lovers. Let me know whether you think I am crazy or whether you agree!

Tea Hee Haw

We had a dream……and in that dream we found ourselves standing in the middle of a vast Texas wasteland next to a large cluster of sagebrush that was still dripping from the recent rain storm. The cracked earth that had previously lined the nearby creek bed was now engorged as the rain waters rushed by in a hurry to fill the scrubby pond down yonder.

Her Majesty's Secret Service

I have a longstanding obsession with crowns, and luckily their are all sorts of avenues to satisfy my cravings.

Imagery, clip art and lovely crowns made by humans for humans. You don't have to have royal blood, although I believe every man, woman and child does, to wear a crown.

So bring out the magical side of your personality and bring a crown into your life. They are beautiful.

Kiera's Moon

Awhile ago I happened upon an up and coming new writer named Lizzy Ford. She was looking for a cover  designer. I was enchanted by her writing and offered to help. Thus my new online company Indie Designz was born. When I started I had no clue about designing book covers, but with Lizzy's help and a little luck I am on my way to building up my new little online endeavor. I blog about my journey, the hiccups as well as the rewards. This is my latest creation for Lizzy. You can also visit her site to get free copies of her books. The links are in my post.

Every Artist Dreams Of Going Pro -- And The Circles Of Freelancing Hell

Artist Collin David doesn't like to be called an artist -- he's just a guy who "makes stuff."  In this interview, he discusses what he does, the "natural progression" to having artwork exhibited and shown in galleries, and what the transition to professional "stuff maker" and freelance designer has been like -- including what he calls the The Nine Circles Of Freelancing Hell.

LOVE

It's the fifth anniversary of LOVE, Cirque du Soleil and the Beatles' wonderful collaboration of dance, acrobatics, performance art and most importantly, music.

This was my third show, I saw it with my youngest son the first year it came to Las Vegas (not one of my favorite locales), and I returned again with my oldest son and his girlfriend. This time I took my partner for his birthday and he was finally able to see how outrageously wonderful this show is for any one who adores the Beatles.

On the Road with Griffin and Jordan

A long awaited road trip with my favorite friends, my sons. We travel a short distance but log in many miles of memories.  With a stop in Portland to refuel and pick up one of my boys, we walk down the lovely Alberta Street. It is filled with restaurants, clubs, a wonderful co-op grocery, a killer taqueria and mercado, fantastic boutiques and an eco friendly hardware store. Long time resident and hair stylist, Earl's Barber Shop make this 'on its way to gentrification' more homey and throw in the garden shop and sticker store and you have a truly interesting twenty blocks to walk.

A day in the life, Gallery 300

I always know where to go when my heart is breaking. Somewhere where the is art. Luckily, I live very near a wonderful collective, Gallery 300, with wonderful artists who bring joy and love to all who enter their space.

Please allow me to introduce the man and women who make up this collective. They can do just about anything and it seems like magic to me.

The 'spider' wall is simply beautiful. Their small workspaces are pieces of art in and of themselves.

Next installment, April's show.
