Blogging is Like Sex – Anyone can do it…but few Master It

Take a look at how I compare blogging with having sex. How do you separate yourself from everyone else? A lot of people have the ability to have sex, but few become incredible lovers. Let me know whether you think I am crazy or whether you agree!

IE6 is ruining Web Design: Or is it us?

We all know how awful IE6 interprets CSS. We bend over backwards making hacks, conditional statements, and disgusting code so we can make the client happy. Because of our efforts, we get the paycheck, but we also ensure that IE6 will stick around that much longer.

My question is: Would you personally eliminate IE6 support in your design for the sake of progressing the web?

Content is the New Black

After spending way too much time on Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook lately, I can’t help but notice the amount of content people are generating and aggregating. I follow people “professionally” on Twitter and LinkedIn, and I see articles and blog posts on almost every topic imaginable. People are using social media to develop their personal and professional brands.

So is content the new black? Is content replacing creative?

Maybe replacing isn’t the right word, but content is definitely making a comeback.

Talented Tuesdays on MommyReview: Showcasing Children's ART

I majored in Art in college… I know right ? What are you going to do with that ? Well create a blog obviously.  My husband also majored in Art…. we use our art background to nurture our daughters artistic talents and not let ‘life’ get in the way like it did with our art dreams.

Sweetie Pie Deal: FONT-tastic!

I've found that one of the easiest - and most fun! - ways to jazz up packaging, labels, tags, signs, paper goods, blog or website, etc. is by using a wide variety of fonts and dingbats that match your theme/product/event/style. Luckily, they are in no short supply and can be found all over the net - for FREE! The following is a collection of some of my favorites, great sites where you can find tons more, and related links and resources...

The “Right-Brained or Left-Brained Ballerina” is getting really annoying…

It's been over a year since the notorious "right-brained or left-brained" ballerina started dancing across the web.  Is looking at this image actually a test that determines whether you are "creative" or "logical"?  I think it's an amusing optical illusion, but it also illustrates a false dichotomy that may limit one's path in life, the same way children are "streamed" into "arts" or "science/math" at some schools.  What do you think about this "test"?  In case you haven't taken it, it is here, with a list of left-brained/right-brained traits - sandwiched between my crit

Psychiatric Drugs: A History in Ads

One of the easiest, most interesting, beautiful, and often comical ways to learn about the history of a particular topic is through media analysis.  In this gallery of images, the history of psychiatry is explored through advertisements for psychiatric drugs, from the early late 1800s to the present day.  It is a reflection of how history repeats itself, and demonstrates that we are not very different at all from generations past.

10 reasons not to work with web design clients

I often find that there are a large number of consumers out there who have no clue how the web design business works. Actually, most of them are this way. They tend to think we are cheaper than we are, or that we are willing to work for nothing more than a “designed by” link to benefit from the traffic. I also find that they tend to run away when you tell them how this business actually works because they want to find another “designer” who is willing to work on their terms.

So You Want To Hire A Freelancer

There are a lot of freelancers available online or in your local community. However, no matter how many there are, it can be difficult to choose the right one. The problem I see a lot in freelance project bidding sites are people unwilling to properly invest in their projects. They have ridiculous expectations. Here are a few innappropriate expectations:

What If

Thomas A. Edison is quoted as saying, "I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." Orville Wright said, "If we all worked on the assumption that what is accepted as true is really true, there would be little hope for advance. These men are just two of many who made the impossible, possible. The unthinkable, thinkable and the unrealistic, realistic. How? By pursuing a "what if..."
