Chocolate Elderberry Cough Syrup
My daughter had a terrible cough with her last virus. I don't like giving my children over the counter cough syrup and read recently that theobromine in chocolate helps suppress a cough better than codine. So I thought, it's worth a try. I already give them elderberry syrup at the first sign of a cold or virus and it helps to reduce the severity and length of their illness and avoid infection. Here's my homemade recipe.

Cough Syrup
....At the moment, we have some Boiron Chestal cough syrup that we got through Kiwi Moms' Meet. Otherwise, I would be trying this recipe for Chocolate Elderberry Cough Syrup....
I actually have never made regular elderberry syrup. I keep meaning to, but I've never gotten around to it. But surely this can't be any less effective than the OTC dextromethorphan-based stuff*....

I'm so thrilled! BEYOND thrilled, in fact! Did you know that you can make your own cough syrup? I'm fairly 'crunchy' as far as medicine goes and I really don't like giving my kids a lot of meds. I still want to do whatever I can to help them when they have a cough or cold or whatever the crud may be.
