Bookmarks

Do you ever find things in books that you'd forgotten about? I do. All the time. I find bits of paper, old check stubs, pressed flowers, lengths of ribbon, etc. And sometimes I find something more conventional: actual bookmarks. I buy a nice bookmark from time to time--you know the nice ones you see at Barnes & Noble sometimes, with cool artwork on them, covered in a plastic sleeve. Today I found just such a bookmark in my copy of Robert Wrigley's "Reign of Snakes."  The bookmark bears Mike Caplanis's artistic rendering of Earnest Hemingway and a brief bio of this renowned author is written on the back of it.

Strange Bookmarks

I've used quite a few strange things to mark my place in books but I do love bookmarks. I have so many but can never seem to put my hands on them when I need one. Having an ereader helps a lot with that problem!

Bookmark at the Lost and Found

Laura Page, in her blog Literary Legs, wrote about bookmarks and finding interesting things in books which she forgot she had once used as a bookmark. She likes to buy a bookmark too. I do as well, but find them a bit expensive for just a piece of cardboard. When you think of all the free stuff you can stick in a book to mark your page it seems a bit extravagant to spend $5 on a fancy bookmark. You could buy a latte instead!
