Any advice for an amateur mixed media artist? What have you been working on?

I didn't think I quite deserved the compliment when my roommate said my mixed media/collage art reminded her of Waneguchi Mutu's exhibit at the Art Gallery of Ontario, "You Call This Civilization?!?", yet there are definitely similarities - the piece I am working on right now is feminist, about the position of women in society, and how images of them are commodified.  The bottom of the collage is comprised of cartoons after a carefully cut Diesel ad featuring airbrushed beauty and topless women start to venture into the realms of the unreal.

Are you a collage artist?  What do you think of these photos?  I would love to start including some arcylic painting to my collages, but I'm weary of ruining any images that took hours to cut up to my satisfaction!
