10 Things The ‘iPod Generation’ Will Never Experience…

Hey you kids! Get the hell off my lawn! With your gameboys and iPods and knife crime. You don’t know you’re born. Back in my day we’d walk seven miles to pick up a CD from our local record store. Uphill. Both ways. The guy there would look down at us from behind the counter and we’d feel small. And we LIKED IT…

etc…

But seriously, over the last few years, the way we consume music has changed beyond recognition. The so called ‘iPod generation’ (a horrible, if functional turn of phrase) get their musical kicks in ways – 10 years ago – I would never have imagined. They’re both lucky and unlucky, as they will never experience the things on the list that follows…

I just read this and it took me straight back to my youth. A guy in Geography class gave me a mixtape of Oasis B-sides for no reason...I loved Acquiesce and everytime it finished I'd rewind my Walkman for 4 minutes and 30 seconds to hear it all over again...

There is a soundtrack

One thing that I've been thinking about lately is how we now have the power to choose the soundtrack that plays in the background of our day to day lives. The rhythm of our steps when we walk is timed to the beat of the playlists sounding in our earbuds.

The Loss Of The 'Casual Hello'

A few years back, the Ipod came out and it seems, with it, we lost many opportunities for, what I’ll call, the ‘casual hello.’ The setup for this is simple: Remember, ‘back in the day,’ when somebody would walk by and you could look up, or walk up to them, and say, ‘hello?’ Remember that?
